Domestic focus
HPJC works on domestic issues such as health care reform, living wage, and organizing of low-paid workers in the Houston area through the Coalition of Working People and the Poor (CWPP), a large collaboration which it was instrumental in forming. For information about CWPP and its work, click here.
Global focus
This area is the responsibility of HPJC's Globalization Working Group. Its current emphases are
- Public education about elite economic globalization and personal ways to disengage from that system, including consumer choices and "green" living
How You Can Help
1. Get on the Globalization Working Group's listserve by sending your request to Joan Denkler,

. Then, respond to its periodic action alerts.
2. Take personal action to promote justice, such as buying Fair Trade certified coffee and other goods, shopping at local retailers rather than chains, and buying locally grown food at Houston's several farmers' markets. Ten Thousand Villages, 2424 Rice Blvd., is part of a Fair Trade procurement and retail network established by the Mennonite Church and a great place to buy Fair Trade goods and gifts.
