SUMMARY:Community Bike Safety Course
DESCRIPTION:Nervous about biking in Houston? Christ the King Evangelical Lutheran Church and Bike Houston invite you to a free Community Bike Safety Course where you’ll gain the confidence to cycle safely around town. The course begins with 90 minutes of classroom instruction at Christ the King Evangelical Lutheran Church\, followed by 90 minutes of drills in Rice University parking lot and then a leisurely ride around the neighborhood to practice our skills on the road. Instruction is provided by certified instructors from Bike Houston and is suitable for all ages. You may attend all or just a portion of the class. Please register on www.eventbrite.com. Christ the King Evangelical Lutheran Church is located at 2353 Rice Blvd. in Houston.   Metro buses 41 & 27 stop nearby. Bike parking is available in the church lot. SUMMARY:Quaker Barter Fair
DESCRIPTION:Black Friday offers the challenge to BUY NOTHING!  The Quaker testimonies of Simplicity\, Community and Stewardship encourage Friends to find creative ways to care for the earth and each other\, and we want to extend this opportunity to others in the community.  Creating a space to practice thinking together in a new way about how we place value on objects and services within our community seems like a worthwhile way to observe the day after Thanksgiving. \nTo get involved\, just come!   Bring a table\, shelf\, rug or blanket to display your goods or a sign that describes your service(s).   CHILDREN ARE WELCOME!  Children are often the best models of how this can work.  They have the ability to add value to an item by describing potential uses\, and the creativity to negotiate three-way trades. \nThere will be a designated area for “free” items that you are willing to give to whomever wants them.  Visitors may then use such items to barter and trade with if they wish.   At the end of the day all items remaining at the “Free Table” will be donated to the Women’s Center.

SUMMARY:All Earth is Waiting – An Advent Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Escape from the frenzy of the start of the “Christmas shopping season” on an intimate\, 24-hour retreat in the beauty of God’s good creation at the Cramer Retreat Center in Spring.  This retreat invites you to get ready for the coming of Christ by exploring familiar Advent themes: hope\, preparation\, joy and peace\, with the reconciliation of heaven and earth in mind. Consider how all creation longs for the coming of Christ\, and how we are called to witness the Incarnation in our care of all God’s created world and all God’s creatures.  Enjoy a time of renewal\, reflection\, recreation\, and restoration on this retreat.  The retreat is open to adults\, and to youth 10+\, when accompanied by an adult. Plan now to participate!   Retreat cost is $60 (+ ticketing fees)\, which covers 3 meals on Saturday\, overnight lodging & a reception on Friday evening. Space is limited\, so please register early.
