SUMMARY:The Path of Hope: A Study on Climate Action for Faith Communities
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to join a weekly online discussion series on Thursday\, beginning Oct. 28\,  built around 15-minute videos featuring interviews with US faith leaders\, representatives of climate-impacted communities from the global South\, and presentations by UN officials and other experts. The videos walk viewers through four key climate policy issues that intersect with universal faith concerns for vulnerable and marginalized people. The series focuses on how climate change is impacting the core ministries of faith communities around the world\, how those impacts will increase in the future\, and why these impacts create an imperative for people of faith to advocate for strong US climate action.  A discussion guide is included that asks participants to think deeply about how their own local faith community’s direct service programs intersect with climate impacts\, and how knowledge and experiences gained through these programs might help to inform climate policy. The study’s Action Center provides practical\, step-by-step instructions for advocacy activities\, as well as recommended policy asks for local\, state\, and national leaders.  Join us! Please register on www.eventbrite.com at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-path-of-hope-a-study-on-climate-action-for-faith-communities-tickets-170550481080. SUMMARY:Enroads Climate Workshop: Simulating Global Solutions
DESCRIPTION:En-ROADS is a transparent\, freely-available policy simulation model that gives everyone the chance to design their own scenarios to limit future global warming.  You can try your own experiments and assumptions\, and get immediate feedback on the likely impacts. The simulation\, developed by Climate Interactive\, Ventana Systems\, and MIT Sloan\, runs on an ordinary laptop in a fraction of a second\, is available online\, offers an intuitive interface\, has been carefully grounded in the best available science\, and has been calibrated against a wide range of existing integrated assessment\, climate and energy models.\nLearn more at https://www.climateinteractive.org

SUMMARY:A Climate Action Plan for Faith Communities & People of Faith
DESCRIPTION:Join Lisa Brenskelle\, Houston Climate Communication Coordinator for the Texas chapter of Interfaith Power & Light\, for a discussion on developing a Climate Action Plan for your faith community and for yourself. The City of Houston has a Climate Action Plan\, but how do you translate that to your faith community\, or to your household?  Clearly\, a city and a faith community or an individual household are very different.  However\, certain fundamental principles apply to all cases. This talk will highlight those principles\, as well tools available and steps to take in developing a climate action plan for both houses of worship & individuals.  Time for interactive Q&A with the speaker will be provided.  Please register for this talk on www.eventbrite.com at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/a-climate-action-plan-for-faith-communities-people-of-faith-tickets-183953689437. SUMMARY:Quaker Barter Fair
DESCRIPTION:Black Friday offers the challenge to BUY NOTHING!  The Quaker testimonies of Simplicity\, Community and Stewardship encourage Friends to find creative ways to care for the earth and each other\, and we want to extend this opportunity to others in the community.  Creating a space to practice thinking together in a new way about how we place value on objects and services within our community seems like a worthwhile way to observe the day after Thanksgiving.\nAnd it is a Fair\, with crafts\, games and other activities for families and chldren\, including\, but not limited to Holiday Potpourri\, Stone Art\, Origami\, Milkweed for Monarchs AND Music by Jim Presley: Blues and Native American Music\nTo get involved\, just come!   Bring a table\, shelf\, rug or blanket to display your goods or a sign that describes your service(s).   CHILDREN ARE WELCOME!  Children are often the best models of how this can work.  They have the ability to add value to an item by describing potential uses\, and the creativity to negotiate three-way trades.\nThere will be a designated area for “free” items that you are willing to give to whomever wants them.  Visitors may then use such items to barter and trade with if they wish.   At the end of the day all items remaining at the “Free Table” will be donated to a local charity.\nSchedule: \n12:30 PM – Open for table setup\n1:00 PM – Open to everyone – Games \, Crafts\, all day\n1:30 PM – Children’s Storytime:\n2:00 PM – 3:00 PM Concert-Jim Presley will play Traditional Blues\, Original Blues\, and Native American Music\n3:15 PM – Children’s Story Time: Milkweed & Monarchs\n\nWe will be observing Covid-19 precautions–event takes place outdoors with social distancing \nPlease bring your mask to wear when/if social distancing is not possible.
