SUMMARY:Faithful Voter Weekly Online Discussion Group
DESCRIPTION:As people of faith and conscience\, we believe elections are a referendum on the values that will shape our future. How can we renew our fragile democracy? How do we honor the human dignity of every person? Will we protect our Sacred Earth and our children’s future? What policies will prioritize the common good and confront future crises that remind us of our interdependence? Many of the defining moral issues of our time are on the ballot: faltering democratic institutions\, too much wealth in the hands of a few\, damage to the climate\, cruel immigration policies that tear families apart\, mass incarceration that devastates communities of color\, senseless gun violence\, and threats to global public health and security. These challenges are daunting. To move forward in a spirit of hope\, and to resist despair and cynicism\, join this weekly discussion group where we’ll navigate the urgent moral questions raised by the coming election\, allowing you to discern your path forward. Can’t make it every week? Join as you are able\, or for those topics most of interest to you. The topic for each week’s discussion is given below. All attendees receive an electronic copy of the Faithful Voter Reflection Guide from Interfaith Power & Light\, plus supplemental materials provided by the facilitator. Register on www.eventbrite.com. Contact Lisa Brenskelle at gcs.lrc@gmail.com with any questions. \nSept. 13: Protecting Our Sacred Earth                    Sept. 20: Protecting Democracy & Voting Rights \nSept. 27: Loving Our Immigrant Neighbors           Oct. 4: Building an Economy of Inclusion \nOct. 11: Pursuing Restorative & Racial Justice      Oct. 18: Respecting the Dignity of LGBTQ People \nOct. 25: Protecting Everyone’s Health                   Nov. 1: Creating a More Peaceful World

SUMMARY:Immense World Book Discussion Group for the Season of Creation
DESCRIPTION:Calling environmentalists\, animal lovers\, Christians observing the Season of Creation\, and people of all faith/spiritual traditions to learn about the amazing sensory abilities of animals in a weekly book discussion group using the bestseller Immense World: How Animals Senses Reveal the Hidden Realms Around Us. SUMMARY:Faithful Resilience: A Study on Climate Resilience for Faith Communities
DESCRIPTION:Faithful Resilience is a six-part weekly study on climate resilience for faith communities. The climate crisis has arrived. Faith communities must not only react\, but also prepare. Over the last decade\, hurricanes have intensified\, wildfires have burnt stronger\, and heat waves have baked our cities. These events can only be expected to get worse in the next decades. Most of our faith communities are not ready for these climate-driven disasters. Yet\, the communities who will be most threatened by climate change also have an opportunity to play a pivotal role in building resilience in their towns and cities. Whether a faith community has a large facility\, land\, social capital\, or something else\, those assets can be channeled into building climate resilience in preparation for the coming physical and spiritual storms of the climate crisis. Join us for this six-week exploration and consider how your faith community can become a force for climate resilience. To learn more/register\, see: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/faithful-resilience-a-study-on-climate-resilience-for-faith-communities-tickets-421609735067. SUMMARY:Sustainable Celebrations
DESCRIPTION:Whether celebrating in your home or your house of worship\, people of all faith/spiritual traditions would like their occasions to be sustainable.  Sustainability is frequently defined as fulfilling the needs of current generations without compromising the needs of future generations.  This is a simple definition\, but putting it into practice for holidays and holy days may require some thought and planning.  Lisa Brenskelle will draw from her decades of work in earthkeeping ministry in both Christian and interfaith settings to explain the key aspects to consider to make your celebration sustainable.  Time for interactive discussion with the speaker will be provided.  Please register for this talk on www.eventbrite.com at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/sustainable-celebrations-tickets-430614338077. Contact Lisa Brenskelle at gcs.lrc@gmail.com with any questions.

SUMMARY:Oneness: Scripture & Science
DESCRIPTION:As John Muir famously wrote in 1911: “When we try to pick out anything by itself\, we find it hitched to everything else in the Universe.” This expression of oneness\, which Muir observed from his time in the Sierras\, has both a scientific and a spiritual basis. Muir was prescient\, as the known science in 1911 had only a rudimentary understanding\, by our modern standards\, or how all things connect. And\, although Muir was raised in very devout Christian home and considered himself a Christian\, he may never have connected the spiritual aspect of this oneness with the Christian faith.  Join Lisa Brenskelle\, who holds a doctoral degree in engineering and has spent decades working in earthkeeping ministry in both Christian and interfaith settings\, as she highlights the oneness of all things as understood by modern science and as expressed in Christian scriptures. Attendees will gain a deeper appreciation of how everything connects to everything else\, including how humanity is woven into the fabric of the universe. Time for interactive discussion with the speaker will be provided.  Please register for this talk on www.eventbrite.com at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/oneness-scripture-science-tickets-430609794487.
