SUMMARY:Saving Water While Saving Souls: Water Conservation at Houses of Worship
DESCRIPTION:Houses of worship have long been in the business of renewal. As it turns out\, they can also lead by example at renewing and saving our water resources. \n\n\n\nAcross traditions and denominations\, faith communities can embrace One Water thinking—the idea that all water has value and should be managed holistically\, whether it falls from the sky\, flows from a faucet\, or enters a drain. \n\n\n\nXeriscaping replaces thirsty turf with native plants that thrive on faith\, sunshine\, and minimal irrigation. Rainwater harvesting systems capture rooftop blessings and store them for landscape use or even indoor nonpotable and potable use. Even air conditioners can join the congregation! AC condensate harvesting collects the steady drip of distilled water that would otherwise disappear into the storm drain. Inside\, conservation measures such as efficient fixtures and leak detection quietly trim consumption without disrupting services (of any kind). Graywater reuse systems redirect gently used water from sinks to irrigate grounds or reuse indoors for non-potable purposes. Atmospheric water generation can even pull moisture directly from the air: loaves and fishes\, but for humidity. \n\n\n\nFor ecclesiastical campuses ready to go further\, on-site blackwater treatment and reuse systems close the loop\, safely recycling wastewater for nonpotable uses. The result is resilience\, lower operating costs\, and an example of environmental care in action. In the end\, saving water is less about sacrifice and more about intention. Houses of worship can model a quiet truth: conservation is not only practical—it’s faithful.  An opportunity for Q&A with the speaker will follow. \n\n\n\nRegister for this event on www.eventbrite.com at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1984398383985. All registrants will receive the recording of the event. Note that Eventbrite is used for ticketing only.  All registrants will get an e-mailed link to join the WebEx web meeting. \n\n\n\nFor more information about this event\, please contact Lisa Brenskelle at gcs.lrc@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:A Faithful and Hopeful Response to Willful Climate Denial Policies
DESCRIPTION:Since January 2025\, the President\, his Congressional yes-men/women\, and the courts have been systematically overturning existing legislation and passing new limitations on successful climate policies\, withdrawing from global commitments\, and gutting scientific funding that was making a difference in combatting the climate crisis.  At the same time\, many within the faith community have remained hopeful and are taking steps to counter these negative influences from the current administration.   \n\n\n\nIn this webinar\, join Mel Caraway\, retired United Methodist pastor\, as he looks at positive steps that are being taken to combat ecological uncertainty. Time for interactive discussion with the speaker will be provided. \n\n\n\nPlease register for this talk on www.eventbrite.com at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1981951471203. SUMMARY:Changing by Choice
DESCRIPTION:If we know what we need to do\, why do we fail to do it?This study invites us to apply this age-old question of faith to the problem of climate change. The study features videos recorded at the global climate negotiations in November 2025 and introduces the Global Ethical Stocktake\, a discussion framework developed in 2025 to guide a global conversation on the ethics of climate change. With grace and urgency\, this study will open space to ask hard questions and gain insights into the issue of climate change—and our responsibilities to each other. \n\n\n\nChanging by Choice considers climate change as it intersects with other core concerns for faith communities\, including hunger; migration; disaster response; and violent conflict. And\, using the Global Ethical Stocktake framework\, it brings your group into conversation with people in local communities around the world. \n\n\n\nJoin the discussion by registering on eventbrite at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/197982521350 \n\n\n\nContact Lisa Brenskelle at gcs.lrc@gmail.com with any questions about this class.

SUMMARY:Faithful Resilience: A Study on Climate Resilience for Faith Communities
DESCRIPTION:Faithful Resilience is a six-part weekly study on climate resilience for faith communities. The climate crisis has arrived. Faith communities must not only react\, but also prepare. Over the last decade\, hurricanes have intensified\, wildfires have burnt stronger\, and heat waves have baked our cities. These events can only be expected to get worse in the next decades. Most of our faith communities are not ready for these climate-driven disasters. Yet\, the communities who will be most threatened by climate change also have an opportunity to play a pivotal role in building resilience in their towns and cities. Whether a faith community has a large facility\, land\, social capital\, or something else\, those assets can be channeled into building climate resilience in preparation for the coming physical and spiritual storms of the climate crisis. Join us for this six-week weekly exploration and consider how your faith community can become a force for climate resilience. \n\n\n\nTo learn more/register\, see: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1975013162535. \n\n\n\nContact Lisa Brenskelle at gcs.lrc@gmail.com for more information. \n\n\n\nTopics for the six-week exploration of how faith communities can become a force for climate resilience for your community include: \n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\nWeek 1: The Land We Inhabit \n\n\n\nWeek 2: The Fierce Urgency of Now \n\n\n\nWeek 3: Resilience & Restoration \n\n\n\nWeek 4: Climate Migration \n\n\n\nWeek 5: Building Resilience \n\n\n\nWeek 6: Resilient Religion/Spirituality

SUMMARY:Living the Change
DESCRIPTION:Scientists tell us that we must reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030 (vs. a 2010 baseline)\, and that 25 – 30% of all needed emissions reductions must come from individuals/households. 50% may seem like a very high hurdle. But\, it translates to only a 10%/year reduction\, starting now. And\, you may have already made some lifestyle improvements since 2010 that reduced your emissions\, so you could already be well on your way toward the 50% reduction goal.   \n\n\n\nParticipants in this individualized course will leave with a personal plan to achieve the 50% emissions reduction goal through targeted lifestyle improvements that will also save them money. The course was developed in response to the Walk on Earth Gently multifaith statement\, inspired by religious teachings to turn away from consumerism & to seek balanced relationships with all people and the planet. Walk on Earth Gently invites you into a journey of Living the Change that the world needs. This program will work individually with participants\, on dates and times that work for both them and the facilitator.  Those already far along on their carbon footprint reduction journey may only need a few sessions with the facilitator to complete their 50% carbon footprint reduction plan\, whereas others may need more sessions.  Accept the Walk on Earth Gently invitation and commit to a sustainable lifestyle.   \n\n\n\nRegister for this course on www.eventbrite.com at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1975018418255. \n\n\n\nFor more information\, please contact Lisa Brenskelle at gcs.lrc@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:Earth and Soul book discussion group
DESCRIPTION:Facing directly into the devastation of climate chaos and biodiversity loss\, Earth and Soul takes readers on a soul journey through grief and loss to also claim the beauty\, joy and possibilities available when we reconnect with Earth. As we follow the author’s compelling personal experiences and engagingly lyrical stories of whales\, cedars\, sparrows\, and more\, we see the necessity and urgency of learning from the wisdom of our kin in the natural world. \n\n\n\nWriting at the intersection of spirituality\, ecology\, and story\, the book charts a course for living deeply connected to Earth in ways that are both vitally important for and uniquely suited to these times. Even now when the world as we once knew it is ending and a new story lies beyond what we can envision\, we hold the potential to lay stepping stones toward a diverse and vibrant world of oneness and mutual flourishing. \n\n\n\nJoin a virtual small group to read and discuss this thought-provoking and inspirational book each week during the Season of Creation (observed by Christians from Sept. 1 through Oct. 4). If you can’t attend every week\, attend as you are able. Contact Lisa Brenskelle at gcs.lrc@gmail.com with any questions. \n\n\n\nRegister for Earth and Soul book discussion group on www.eventbrite.com at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1506035987179.   \n\n\n\nContact Lisa Brenskelle at gcs.lrc@gmail.com for more information.

Sophy will share how to help SUN advocate for our solar rights. Please register for this talk on https://www.mobilize.us/solarunitedneighbors/event/830764/. \nWelcoming the Energy Transition: Nan Hildreth will provide citizens with keen insights and statistical data to elucidate the energy revolution that we are in the midst of\, right now\, even though few have noticed it. “We must recognize it and pursue it swiftly and wholeheartedly to end the climate crisis\,” Nan says. This workshop will display how clean energy has become the cheapest source of energy and is doubling every three years. 95% of new electricity generation in 2024 was solar\, wind\, or battery-supplied from clean energy. By 2050\, humanity can expect to accomplish twice as much with only a fraction of current emissions. Fossil fuels waste 2/3 of the energy created. Clean energy adoption is as unstoppable as was the Industrial Revolution. Yet some are trying to slow it down. \nJoin us for a fun day of triumph to celebrate the success of widespread renewable energy adoption and learn how you can advocate for change! Register for the Sun Day event\, for planning purposes\, at: https://actionnetwork.org/events/sun-day-houston \nAbout TH!RD ACT\nPrimary sponsor of Sun Day is TH!RD ACT (https://thirdact.org/)\, a national nonprofit organization of citizens over age 60\, working together to build a powerful elder-led movement to safeguard our climate and protect democracy for future generations.
But\, it translates to only a 8%/year reduction\, starting now. \n\n\n\nWalk on Earth Gently invites you into a journey of Living the Change that the world needs. \n\n\n\nRegister for this course on www.eventbrite.com at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1507561550179. Meeting dates and times are individually scheduled.  For more information\, please contact Lisa Brenskelle at gcs.lrc@gmail.com.
