SUMMARY:Scarred Lands\, Wounded Lives: The Environmental Footprint of War
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Sunday\, November 5th for a viewing of the film\, Scarred Lands\, Wounded Lives: The Environmental Impact of War. This event is sponsored by Transition Houston\, the Houston Peace and Justice Center\, Houston 350.org. Contributions are welcome and will benefit Houston Peace News. \nIt will be shown at one of the St Stephen’s School buildings which is located diagonally across from St Stephens Episcopal Church’s Community House on Sul Ross. Sunday Nov. 5 at 7 pm.(Doors open at 6:30 pm) \nAbout the Film\n \n\nScarred Lands and Wounded Lives is a compelling documentary exploring the under-reported environmental impacts of war and preparations for war. The film confronts the immensely broad ecological and human ramifications of everything from technological development and natural resource exhaustion to weapons testing and modern warfare itself. \nEcosystems around the world are in distress from forces of humanity’s own making: increasing population\, unsustainable demands on natural resources\, habitat and species loss\, and climate change. One of the most destructive of human behaviors – war – is not commonly included as a contributor to the growing global environmental crisis. \nYet\, in all its stages\, from the production of weapons through combat\, military operations pollute land\, air\, and water\, destroy entire ecosystems\, and drain limited natural resources. \nUsing archival material from the Civil War through more recent wars\, along with expert testimony and eyewitness accounts\, the film clearly presents the environmental and human cost of combat\, and argues for public scrutiny of the ecological and human impact of war as essential to a more sustainable – and secure – world. \n\nContributions welcome for Houston Peace News. \nSponsored by HPN\, HPJC (Houston Peace & Justice Centeer\, Transition \nHouston\, Houston 350.org \n Contact: Lee Loe\, 713.524.2682; lee.t.loe@gmail.org

SUMMARY:Journey of the Universe screenings
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to go on the Journey of the Universe in October\, with three opportunities to be awe-struck by this Emmy-award winning documentary which narrates the 14 billion year story of the universe’s development in a single hour. The film tells this story in a way that is accessible to everyone: drawing on astronomy and physics to explain the emergence of galaxies and stars\, geology and chemistry to understand the formation of Earth\, biology and botany to trace life’s evolution\, and anthropology and history to see the rise of humans. Journey weaves science and humanities in a new way that allows for a comprehensive sense of awe and wonder to arise. This approach expands the human perspective to one that values life’s complexity and sees the role of humans as critical to the further flourishing of the Earth community. An open facilitated discussion will follow each film screening.

SUMMARY:Connections between People & Nature: Biodiversity
DESCRIPTION:Sunday Evening Conversations on Creation Continue…  \nChrist the King Evangelical Lutheran Church invites you to attend Sunday Evening Conversations on Creation\, an environmental education web meeting series whose theme in 2017 is Connections between People and Nature. \nAt the September web meeting\, we welcome Professor Kerri Crawford\, Assistant Professor of Biology & Biochemistry at the University of Houston. In her presentation\, Dr. Crawford will discuss global threats to biodiversity and why we should care\, including how biodiversity influences natural systems and provides ecosystem services that we rely on.  She will present examples from her own work\, such as experiments that tested how plant diversity influences restoration outcomes in coastal ecosystems and how soil microbes influence plant community diversity.  Finally\, she will speculate on key scientific questions that need to be answered to understand how ecological communities will change in the future and help mitigate the negative consequences of these changes. After Professor Crawford’s talk\, there will be time for Q&A. If you would like to join this online conversation\, please register and you will receive an invitation to the web meeting. SUMMARY:Houston Anarchist Book Fair
DESCRIPTION:Announcing the 2017 Houston Anarchist Bookfair! On Sunday September 24\, 2017\, Houston Anarchist Black Cross will host a one-day convergence to network\, grow\, and celebrate anarchist and anti-authoritarian projects in Texas and the surrounding region. Join us for books\, workshops\, and discussion to celebrate and expand our southern radical communities of resistance! \nWe welcome proposals for workshops\, panels\, film screenings and the like\, and especially encourage people from Texas\, neighboring states\, and the south and southwest/la frontera generally to submit proposals. Proposals are due August 1 and can be submitted on the form at http://www.houstonanarchistbookfair2017.wordpress.com \nWe will also have opportunities for publishers\, distros\, bookstores and others to table. If you’d like to volunteer\, get in touch with us at htxanarchistbookfair2017@gmail.com and tell us a little bit about yourself and what aspect you’re interested in helping with. \nThe event is free\, with no registration required. We are committed to making this a safe\, welcoming space for all people who are genuinely interested in the Anarchist Bookfair\, including gender diverse folks\, people with disabilities\, parents\, children\, femmes\, women and people of color. If you experience harassment\, abuse\, assault\, or any other kind of violation during the book fair\, or if someone who has engaged in such behavior in the past is adversely affecting your participation at the book fair\, or if you need support for any other reason\, please do reach out to us at htxanarchistbookfair2017@gmail.com. \nFAQ \nQ: Can I participate if I am not an anarchist? \nA: Absolutely! Whether you are a communist or other type of radical looking to network with like-minded people\, or simply curious to learn more about anarchism and radical projects going on in Houston and the region\, we want to welcome everyone who is genuine in their interest in the bookfair. On the other hand\, fascists\, cops\, trolls\, and others who only wish to subvert the purpose of the book fair are most decidedly not welcome. \nQ: What is anarchism anyway? \nA: We’re sure that every anarchist at the bookfair would offer a different\, and at times divergent\, definition of anarchism. But here’s one quick definition! \nAnarchism is a set of revolutionary political ideas which seek a fundamental transformation of society toward expansive visions of individual and social freedom. Within this is a comprehensive critique and rejection of all forms of hierarchy and structured relationships of domination–including the State\, capitalism\, white supremacy\, patriarchy and hetero-sexism–as well as visions of a free society built on human freedom\, equality\, solidarity\, and mutual aid. \nQ: Why a book fair? \nA: Anarchists around the world have long organized bookfairs as spaces to gather\, share ideas\, and network. In the age of e-readers and digital\, online organizing\, the idea of a bookfair may sound anachronistic. But we believe that much of the power that our political movements have and can build grows out of the relationships we have with one another–as individuals\, organizations\, and communities. And when it comes to building relationships\, there is really no substitute for face to face interaction\, sharing space\, and learning and working together. We hope to facilitate that with the workshops\, presentations\, and discussions that are being planned\, and the space that we create. There will also certainly be plenty of books\, pamphlets\, t-shirts\, and stickers available! As the late Texas-born anarchist Lucy Parsons said\, “Anarchists know that a long period of education must precede any great fundamental change in society\, hence they do not believe in vote begging\, nor political campaigns\, but rather in the development of self-thinking individuals.” \nQ: Why now? \nA: The United States has long been a terrifying landscape for many across the world–a white-supremacist\, settler-colonialist\, capitalist\, hetero-patriarchy. The rise of the Trump regime and the grassroots fascist right has stripped away much of the old window dressing and intensified the myriad attacks on people of color\, women\, poor people\, queer and trans people\, Muslims and Jews\, migrants\, and others. Millions want to begin fighting back or redouble their efforts. \nThose who are newer to the resistance might be looking to get plugged in\, learn new skills\, and sharpen their analysis. Those who have been in the game for a minute might be looking to find new inspiration\, new camaraderie\, new creativity\, and fresh perspective. All of us are looking for ways to move forward together in dark times. Our gatherings are more important now than ever. \nQ: Why Houston? \nA: Texas\, and especially Houston\, has a well-earned reputation for being the epicenter of the U.S. petrochemical industry\, the locus of reactionary political movements that were laughed at until they came to power\, and the home state of several war criminal presidents. Usually thought of as backward or irredeemable rather than hip\, radical\, or enlightened\, the whole region is often overlooked by much of the U.S. left that is concentrated on either coast. \nBut there is–and always has been–resistance here too: from the Black soldiers at Fort Logan who went to war against the police and Jim Crowe in 1917\, to the neighborhood that rebelled in 1977 when the cops who murdered Joe Campos Torres got off with a $1 fine; from hosting the first National Chicana Conference in 1971\, to hosting the National Women’s Conference (and the radical feminist protests outside of it!) in 1977; from direct actions against war profiteer Halliburton and logging company Maxxam in 2004-05 to resistance to the Tar Sands blockade against the Keystone XL pipeline a couple years ago; from the 2003 Radical Encuentro Camp to the 2011 Houston Anarchist Bookfair. Resistance in the belly of the beast has always been strong! \nTrue\, Houston has never had as large of a radical community as some places\, nor as many resources. But we’ve always forged ahead with the utmost spirit\, creativity\, and tenacity. In this tradition\, we are proud to welcome anarchists and other radicals from across the region to the 2017 Houston Anarchist Bookfair!

SUMMARY:Repair Cafe
DESCRIPTION:What is a Repair Cafe?\nOur society revolves around consumption. Personal consumption of durable goods add up to 8% of GDP\, and non-durable goods add up to 15%\, totaling about $4 trillion dollars annually in the USA! The more we buy\, the more we throw away\, often during the first year! And… most people no longer know how to repair things. \nA Repair Cafe celebrates fixing through a fun\, collaborative\, hands-on\, fix-n-learn\, community-based discovery and disassembly. People bring us their broken\, non-functioning things — small electronics and appliances\, toys\, bicycles\, clothing\, jewelry\, etc.– for assessment\, disassembly\, and — hopefully — repair. \nShare your ideas — Give your stuff a longer life — Fixing is good — Make it a way of life!

SUMMARY:On The Beach (1959 Movie)
DESCRIPTION:On the Beach is a 1959 American post-apocalyptic science fiction drama film from United Artists\, produced and directed by Stanley Kramer\, that stars Gregory Peck\, Ava Gardner\, Fred Astaire and Anthony Perkins.[2] This black-and-white film is based on Nevil Shute‘s 1957 novel of the same name depicting the aftermath of a nuclear war.[3] Unlike the novel\, no blame is placed on whoever started the war; it is hinted in the film that the threat of annihilation may have arisen from an accident or misjudgment. \nIn early 1964\, in the months following World War III\, the conflict has devastated the Northern Hemisphere\, polluting the atmosphere with nuclear fallout\, killing all life there. Air currents are slowly carrying the fallout south; the only areas still habitable are in the far reaches of the Southern Hemisphere. \nFrom Australia\, survivors detect an incomprehensible Morse code signal coming from the West Coast of the United States. The last American nuclear submarine\, USS Sawfish\, under Royal Australian Navy command\, is ordered to sail north to the United States to attempt to make contact with the sender of the Morse signal. The submarine is commanded by Captain Dwight Towers (Gregory Peck)\, who must leave his new friend\, the alcoholic Moira Davidson (Ava Gardner). \nThe Australian government arranges for its citizens to receive suicide pills or prepared injections so they may end things quickly before there is prolonged suffering from radiation sickness. An Australian naval officer\, Peter Holmes (Anthony Perkins) and his wife\, Mary\, who is in denial about the impending disaster\, have a baby daughter. Assigned to travel with the American sub for several weeks\, Peter tries to explain to Mary how to euthanize their baby and then kill herself in case he is not yet home when the end comes; Mary reacts very emotionally to the prospect of killing her daughter and herself. \nOne scientist’s theory is that the radiation level near the Arctic Ocean could be lower than that found in the mid-Northern Hemisphere\, which might indicate the radiation could disperse before reaching the Southern Hemisphere. The theory is to be explored along with the submarine’s main mission. After sailing to Point Barrow\, Alaska\, they determine that radiation levels are\, on the contrary\, intensifying. \nThis is a long film and will be shown in two parts with a meal between \nPart I  3 pm – 4:15 PM \nMeal Break 4;15- 5:15 \nPart II  5:15-6:30

SUMMARY:John Pilger's The coming war on China
DESCRIPTION:  \nIT’S no secret that Beijing has been building up its military might in the South China Sea. \nBut there’s another superpower making an even bigger play to stay top dog and many of us wouldn’t event realize. The United States has surrounded China with 400 military bases in an almost perfect “noose”. \n  \nIn a new documentary set to air on Sunday night\, The Coming war on China\, award-winning journalist and filmmaker John Pilger challenges the notion of the world’s newest\, biggest trading nation as an enemy.  He also reveals the build-up to war taking place right on Beijing’s doorstep. \nFilmed over two years in the Marshall Islands\, Japan\, Korea\, China and the US\, Pilger highlights America’s secret history in the region. \n  \nThe eye-opening documentary reveals some surprising findings including that the people of the Marshall Islands were used as nuclear guinea pigs under the top secret “Project 4.1”. \nPilger also travels to Japan and Korea where he speaks to and observes people resisting the US expansion. \n  \nHe visits the Japanese island of Okinawa where 32 US bases are located and speaks to those who are challenging the world’s biggest military power. \nOn the Korean island of Jeju\, a world heritage site\, he witnesses farmers\, villagers\, priests and supporters who block gates to a base only to be removed every day. \nIn an interview with news.com.au ahead of the film going to air\, Pilger said he wanted to “help people make sense of a critical subject that is seldom more than a series of sound-bites.” \n“I say critical\, because a strange and dangerous atmosphere currently separates the world’s greatest military power\, the United States\, and a country that will almost certainly become the world’s greatest economic power\, China\,” he said. \n  \n“In the past few years\, the provocations\, threats\, contradictions and confusion have caused the kind of mistrust that make war by misunderstanding or by mistake or accident a real possibility. And both the US and China are nuclear-armed.” \nPilger also raises questions over whether it’s Beijing we should really be worried about. \n“China is surrounded by 400 US military bases in what one strategist describes as a ‘noose’\,” he said. \n“Many of these bases are on China’s doorstep\, armed with missiles\, naval battle groups\, nuclear bombers\, drones. US naval warships patrol just outside Chinese waters.” \nWhile the US has almost 1000 foreign bases\, China has just one which Pilger said was smaller and did not threaten California. \n  \n  \n“ \n

SUMMARY:HUG Talk -Integrating animals into row crop gardens.
DESCRIPTION:The history of the farm was always a place where animals and plants were rotated in the fields. The animal manure provided fertility for the plants to grow. In the last 75 years\, farming has steadily moved away from that. They have created new industries providing fertility through fossil fuel based fertilizers\, mined amendments and manure\, blood meal and bone meal collected from confined animal feeding operations. These are trucked to the farm\, spread with tractors and tilled into the soil\, destroying the microbiology of the soil food web. The nutrients in the soil and our food have plummeted and diet related disease has skyrocketed. \nLaughing Frog Farm is primarily interested in providing nutrient dense\, organic food. They raise sheep and chickens in rotation with the plants and the animals fertilize and aerate the soil. The soil at the farm is not tilled mechanically. The result is soil that has great structure\, fertility and crop yields. Glen Miracle started his first organic garden in Houston’s east end in 1978 and began Laughing Frog Farm in 2001. He will discuss the methods\, the research\, and the results of this journey.

SUMMARY:"If a Tree Falls" Film Screening and Vegan Tamale Sale
DESCRIPTION:June 11 is the International Day of Solidarity with Marius Mason and All Long-Term Anarchist Prisoners! We will be screening If A Tree Falls: A Story of the Earth Liberation Front (2011)\, writing letters and cards of support to anarchist political prisoners\, and selling vegan tamales at a sliding scale to raise money for Marius!\n \nIf A Tree Falls tells the remarkable story of one cell of the Earth Liberation Front\, by focusing on the transformation\nand radicalization of one of its members\, Daniel McGowan. Part coming-of-age tale\, part cops-and-robbers thriller\, the film interweaves a verite chronicle of Daniel on house arrest as he faces life in prison\, with a dramatic recounting of the events that led to his involvement with the group. And along the way it asks hard questions about environmentalism\, activism\, and the way we define terrorism. \nChildren are very welcome and Solidarity Houston has a children’s corner with books\, crafts\, and games. \nSolidarity Houston is wheelchair accessible space through the front entrance\, and has one gender neutral wheelchair accessible bathroom (does not have an accessibility bar). The space is not currently scent free. Service animals always welcome\, non-human animal companions are welcome as well. If you have any other accessibility needs or questions\, please email us at houston_abc@riseup.net! \nParking is in the back of the space\, along the train tracks. We recommend you don’t park in the Mi Charro lot\, as they are known to tow people\, but if you need an accessible space to park make sure you don’t park in a marked spot. Bikes can come into the space. The new green line of the metro rail has a stop right in front of the space\, for those using public transportation.

SUMMARY:Meet filmmaker Regis Tremblay 11:59:30-Thirty Seconds to Midnight
DESCRIPTION:Reception with  Regis Tremblay \nMy new documentary\, Thirty Seconds to Midnight\, is ready and we will show it in Houston\, TX \nThis has been a very long\, three year project that began with my first feature documentary\, The Ghosts of Jeju. It was then that I realized the U.S. plan for full spectrum dominance of the planet. My research and interest since then has focused on the trajectory of Manifest Destiny since the white\, European explorers came to the Americas in the 15th Century. Blessed by the Pope of Rome\, the Doctrine of Discovery gave the illegal immigrants from Europe the right to the land and its resources and permission to kill all of the savages that inhabited those lands. From that time on\, these white\, European\, illegal immigrants\, and later the newly formed United States of America\, continued to massacre millions of Native Americans. Those that were not killed either died of disease\, starvation or were herded onto reservations where they lived in squalor. As the film makes clear\, violence and killing have been part of the American narrative from the very beginning. \nThe United States of America was built on slavery and later the commodification of labor. Eventually\, the Doctrine of Discovery and Manifest Destiny were applied to the entire world. Since 1798\, the United States has invaded more than 500 countries and murdered tens of millions of innocent people\, stealing their resources and destroying entire civilizations. Just since WWII\, the United States has planned and orchestrated coups\, assassinations\, regime changes\, color revolutions\, drone killings\, and murdered more than 20 million innocent men\, women and children. And the slaughter continues today in Afghanistan\, Pakistan\, Iraq\, Libya\, Syria\, Yemen\, Somalia and throughout Africa and South America. \nWith the dropping of the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki\, America ushered in a new era in human history that has all life on earth on the brink of extinction\, and this is the theme of Thirty Seconds to Midnight. There are only three threats to life on the planet\, and only three. They are\, a nuclear holocaust\, nuclear power that is not safe\, and climate change. As Dr. Helen Caldicott says in the film\, “We are like lemmings walking towards the cliff and worrying about things that don’t matter.” \nSince going to Jeju Island\, I have returned to the Pacific to document the presence and effects of U.S. militarism from Hawaii all the way down to the Marshall Islands. In this past year\, I travelled to Germany\, Ukraine and to Russia because not only is America threatening to choke off China with the Pivot to Asia\, but America has also been threatening Russia since the end of the Cold War and the fall of the Soviet Union with thousands of US/NATO troops\, bases and missiles on Russia’s borders. The threat of nuclear war with these two nuclear-armed countries is greater now than during the Cold War. \nAnd so it is\, America’s destiny has all life on the planet on the very brink of extinction. As Dr. Caldicott wonders at the end of the film\, “Are we an evolutionary aberration designed in an evolutionary sense not to survive? I wonder.”

SUMMARY:13 Colors of the Honduran Resistance
DESCRIPTION:Melissa Cardoza\, an afro-indigenous feminist leader from Honduras\, is coming to Houston on May 22\, together with Honduran singer-songwriter Karla Lara\, as part of a tour of the U.S. promoting the new bilingual Spanish-English edition of Melissa’s book\, 13 colores de la resistencia hondureña / 13 Colors of the Honduran Resistance. \nThe book tells the stories of several women who were involved in the massive movement of resistance that arose after the coup d’état that took place in Honduras in 2009. The coup unleashed conditions of greatly increased corruption and impunity. The violence and harms stemming from this have not diminished to this day. \nAlicia Garza of the Black Lives Matter Network comments: \n<<13 Colors of the Honduran Resistance by Melissa Cardoza is a must read for anyone who wants to learn about the many contours of Honduran feminists fighting for self-determination and dignity. These stories of bravery\, of struggle and pain\, and ultimately of a resilience rooted in a love for freedom will grip your heart. Cardoza is brilliant in storytelling\, and ensures that\, in memory of our sister Berta Cáceres\, feminisms are three dimensional and span multiple experiences—trans\, Black\, elderly\, and more. The lessons contained in these stories offer important reflections for all revolutionaries.>> \nThe book’s English translator\, Matt Ginsberg-Jaeckle writes: \n<<Melissa calls those the times “when protests were poetry in the streets.” Few people could better turn that poetry in the streets into prose on the page than she. A fearless journalist in the most dangerous country in the world for a reporter\, a lesbian in a land where LGBT people regularly turn up as cadavers in the streets\, an activist in a place where the faces of the disappeared line countless walls\, an afro-indigenous woman in a region where racism continues to take a deadly toll\, Melissa is a writer who knows the meaning of resistance.>> \nAt the event\, Melissa Cardoza and Karla Lara will perform stories from the book using a mixed-media format of storytelling\, acting and song. That will be followed by discussion about the situation in Honduras\, Berta Cáceres\, her legacy and #JusticeforBerta campaign\, and transnational movement-connections. \nBoth were close friends of the late Berta Cáceres\, who was assassinated a year ago\, and led COPINH (http://copinhenglish.blogspot.com/)\, a resistance movement of the indigenous Lenca people of western Honduras that has stopped dams\, mines\, and other destructive “projects of death” as Berta called them. \nRelated links: \nTour info: http://ggjalliance.org/book-tour-2017-13-colors-honduran-resistance \nA poetic and musical presentation by Melissa Cardoza (in Spanish):https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ruEmqjnZhKE \nPlease come and invite your friends to join in this unique experience!

SUMMARY:On Coal River Film Screening and Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, May 3rd\, 7PM @ Rice Cinema\n\n\n\n\nThe Ethnographic Film Society is proud to present a public screening of “On Coal River”\, a documentary about environmental justice in coal country Appalachia. The screening is free and open to the public. A 5$ donations at the door to support Coal River Mountain Watch\, one of the activist organization prominently featured in the film\, are greatly appreciated.\n\nFor more information see our Facebook event here: https://www.facebook.com/events/118627328680500/\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCoal River Valley\, West Virginia is a community surrounded by lush mountains and a looming toxic threat. ON COAL RIVER follows a former miner and his neighbors in a David-and-Goliath struggle for the future of their valley\, their children\, and life as they know it.\n\nEd Wiley once worked at the same coal waste facility that now threatens his granddaughter’s elementary school. When his local government refuses to act\, Ed embarks on a quest to have the school relocated to safer ground.  With insider knowledge and a sharp sense of right and wrong\, Ed confronts his local school board\, the state government\, and a notorious coal company — Massey Energy — for putting his granddaughter and his community at risk.\n\nAlong the way\, Ed is supported by his neighbors Bo and Judy\, who have their own problems with the coal company.  Ex-marine Bo Webb retired to his childhood home only to discover that this once-idyllic valley is being transformed by the practice of “mountaintop removal” – blowing up mountains to extract coal.  Bo’s neighbor Judy Bonds was forced to leave her ancestral home when the same company opened a mine next door – sending dangerous black water down the creek where her grandson played.  Together\, Bo and Judy help Ed bring attention to the dangers at Marsh Fork Elementary\, hoping that if they save the school\, they can save the valley.\n\nAcross the river\, Maria Lambert recognizes a pattern in the unusual health problems plaguing her community.  Following intuition\, and what she describes as a mission from above\, Maria gathers evidence suggesting that nearby coal companies have contaminated her neighborhood’s water supply.\n\nShot over a five-year period\, ON COAL RIVER follows the transformation of these four remarkable individuals as they fight for the valley they love — and for future generations.

SUMMARY:Homemade Kombucha Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Registration: http://sippingsister.brownpapertickets.com/ \nWant to learn to make homemade Kombucha? It’s a fermented tea full of probiotics (healthy gut!)\, nonalcoholic (usually around .5%)\, and simple to make. Kombucha acts as an adaptogen\, which helps the body maintain homeostasis.  The main ingredients are simple; water\,  a SCOBY\, tea and something sweet. \nSave money!  Already drink lots of kombucha?  You probably pay $5 for 16oz.  In class\, we will brew 1 gallon batches of kombucha\, which is 128oz ($40 for store kombucha).  That’s 8 bottles of kombucha for a per batch cost of under $2!  All you need is organic sugar ($0.40) and organic tea ($0.90)! \nIt’s healthy!  Homemade kombucha is never flash pasteurized\, as it doesn’t need to be shelf stable.  This means that local beneficial bacteria and yeasts can thrive and at resilience and diversity to your gut. \nIn this class we will… \n– Tour Japhet Creek Park\,\n– Learn about wild yeasts/bacteria and fermentation\n– Brew kombucha (hands on)**\n– Flavor kombucha in a second ferment (hands on)***\n– Take home a SCOBY mother to start your own \n**If you purchase a kombucha starter kit\, we will brew your first batch together\, and you can take your mother home. \nCome enjoy the “unintentional” nature community of Japhet Creek and practice the ancient art of fermentation. Leave with a jar of your favorite drink or a starter culture to make your own. \nThis class will be outdoors around the community bonfire pit.  Please bring weather appropriate shoes and clothing.  Thanks! \n***Past flavor favorites: beet and jalapeño\, ginger\, raw hibiscus\, strawberry\, fresh mint \n———————————————————————-\n10% of the proceeds to this class current indigenous resistance projects and movements. In the past this money has gone to Two Rivers Camp\, AIDA and Survival International. These groups champion tribal peoples and defend their land and culture. As we celebrate their wisdom in our class we will also be sending support for their way of living to continue. \nScholarships are available. Please contact csbhouston@gmail.com for more information. \nInstructor: Andrew Cobb
