SUMMARY:We Won't Let Trump Steal the Election! We Will Defeat Fascism!
Si desea obtener más información\, llame al 832.692.2306 o al 855.724.7837.\n \n \n \nDonald Trump is the most racist\, sexist\, anti-worker\, and authoritarian president in half a century. He has implemented a Muslim travel ban\, started to build a wall to keep Mexican and Central American migrants out of our country\, and slandered political leaders\, athletes\, and other people of African descent. Trump has supported tax breaks for giant corporations and the super-rich. He has opposed unions\, social services and environmental protection; encouraged police brutality\, and fought against efforts to address systemic racism. He has appealed to neo-Nazis and other white supremacists for support. His inaction and lies about COVID-19 are responsible for more than 200\,000 deaths in this country. And while he says the economy is in good shape\, many millions of people are unemployed and face eviction. Now Trump is threatening to steal the election by engaging in voter suppression\, calling for an “Army for Trump” to intimidate voters\, and exploring options for ignoring the election results in some states.\nSome of Trump’s fascist supporters have already engaged in acts of violence\, and he recently told them to “stand by.” The threat of fascism has never been so grave in the United States\, and Trump must be removed from office. Record numbers of people are already voting in this election\, and every poll indicates that he will lose the election. But we must do more than vote. We must take to the streets now and send a powerful message: We will not allow Trump to steal the election. We will not accept dictatorship and fascism. The Coalition against Trump and Fascism (Houston Socialist Movement\, Houston United Front against Fascism\, Trajabadores del Hogar sin Fronteras\, and other activists)\, and People’s New Black Panther Party are organizing a march and demonstration in Houston on Wednesday\, November 4\, beginning at 5 pm. We will meet at 900 Smith Street\, at the entrance to City Hall grounds between McKinney Street and Walker Street. Then we will march to the Leland Federal Building at 1919 Smith Street for a demonstration. Please plan to join us on November 4. If you would like more information\, please call 832.692.2306 or 855.724.7837.

SUMMARY:Houstonians for Migrant Justice Rally
DESCRIPTION:We live in a city where asylum seekers are being kept in detention centers\, one of which lies just outside Downtown and is housing teenagers indefinitely. These centers are run by the Southwest Key Programs\, whose leaders are profiting off of the detainment of children and have yet to share adequate information about the conditions in these centers. We\, as Houstonians\, are obligated to come together to stand with the migrants in our city and call out maltreatment of migrants when it occurs. This is why Houstonians for Migrant Justice is committed to the humanitarian care\, timely reunification\, and just legal representation for migrants sheltered in our community\, and transparency and accountability from the agencies that provide these services.  \nOur group intends to use this joint rally-fundraiser to pursue this transparency and accountability\, by engaging with elected officials and urging them to visit the Southwest Key detention centers in Houston and by raising money for a prominent group providing pro-bono legal aid to Houston migrants.  \nThe rally will be held on Saturday September 14\, tentatively from 5:30-8:30pm at the Casa Sunzal detention center (419 Emancipation Ave). We will meet at Settegast Park (3000 Garrow St) at 5:30pm and walk for about 5-10 minutes to the detention center.  \nIf you are interested in volunteering with us to fundraise and conduct community outreach\, please contact us here.

SUMMARY:Migrant Children in Crisis - National Public Witness Event at the Border
DESCRIPTION:Join people of good conscience\, physicians and faith leaders bringing visibility to the human rights violations of the 134\,000 children detained in 2017 by immigration (we have already exceeded this number for 2018). Come as a volunteer in a caravan of cars filled with relief supplies\, including bottled water (no sparkling or flavored)\, easy open and individual sized fruit\, peanut butter\, veggies\, protein snacks\, cereals\, crackers\, natural juices\, bags of dry rice\, canned beans/soup\, and blankets. We are heading to Ursula CBP detention facility in McAllen\, Texas to bear witness to a system that has for too long ignored the basic needs of migrant children in immigration detention. It took 12 years to secure the Flores settlement\, which continues to be actively litigated to protect the human rights of these children. But\, with all eyes on family separation and the dehumanization and deprivations of just 3\,000 children\, we have a historic opportunity to demand expedient change for 134\,000 others annually.  We have a FREE bus to fill\, donated by a very generous nonprofit partner.
