SUMMARY:"The Joy" a play about Mary Dyer
DESCRIPTION:Renowned actor-playwright\, Jeanmarie (Simpson) Bishop performs her Houston debut of “The Joy”\, a play about pre-First Amendment martyr\, Mary Dyer.\n– The performance is Pay-What-You-Can\, plus bring toiletries for us to make toiltetry packets for Health Care for the Homeless.\n– The performance will be followed by a discussion and pot luck dinner. \nThe author-performer says of her subject\, “The American First Amendment had everything to do with Mary Dyer being hanged more than a century before it was drafted. Speaking very personally\, her life – the choices she made\, the way she kept going – has helped me find the ambition to get up many a morning when all I wanted was to crawl under the covers and stay there. M…y insight\, more a revelation\, is that choices make us whole. We are powerful when we choose things\, as opposed to having them thrust upon us and being forced to accept them. Even hard things\, even being executed\, when it’s our choice\, is a liberation. I think about that every day now\, and it’s a gift Mary gave to me.” \nKnown for her performance portraits of fierce\, historical women\, Bishop has distinguished herself among her peers in the entertainment industry. \nThe late\, great Leonard Nimoy simply called her “brilliant.” Actor Judd Nelson said\, “Ultimately\, I believe Jeanmarie to be one of humanity’s invaluable resources.” Humorist Dylan Brody said\, “She is a terrific writer\, a riveting performer and an artistic activist of the sort all too rarely seen in America today\,” and superstar Joni Mitchell called her “a dedicated artist and remarkable woman.” \nhttp://marybarrettdyer.blogspot.com/2011/12/top-10-things-you-may-not-know-about.html

SUMMARY:House Concert w/ Rainbow Girls in KPFT backyard
DESCRIPTION:We’ll have a keg of home brew and kombucha\, some blankets on the grass and an intimate\, bluesy show by the Rainbow Girls – three of my best friends from Bodega Bay\, CA\, stopping through on their south coast house concert tour. We’ll be taking donations and all donations will BENEFIT Houston Stands with Standing Rock. Much thanks to KPFT for hosting us in their awesome backyard! Bring friendly folks\, children are welcome 🙂 \n7 PM – Drinks\, hang out\n8 PM – MUSIC WILL START AT 8 PM \nHere’s some info:\nhttps://www.rainbowgirlsmusic.com/\nemail: rainbowgirlsmusic@gmail.com\ninstagram: rainbowgirlsstomp\ntwitter: @rainbowgirrs \nRainbow Girls is a collaborative of songwriters\, multi-instrumentalists\, vocalists\, and California natives who’ve spent the last 4 years touring Europe and the US as a rock n’ roll band\, but who’ve recently returned to their folkier roots by embarking on a house concert tour across America. This trio version of the band (Eric Chapin\, Caitlin Gowdy and Vanessa May) highlights their rich harmonies\, ageless songwriting\, and soulful\, bluesy sound at it’s rawest form. \nThe ladies came together at an underground open mic in Santa Barbara\, CA in 2010 and since then have released two studio albums\, toured the US and Europe extensively\, and simultaneously developed two different forms of performing: 1) An electric\, rock n’ roll\, foot-stomping spectacular\, enticing people to let loose\, get naked and dance wildly; And 2) An intimate and acoustic set based around their unique harmonies and folkier roots. \nThese are some of my best friends from my earliest days in California and I’m so happy to be able to share them with you. This will also be one of my last hurrahs in Houston for a while so I hope to see you there! \n90.1 FM KPFT Houston \n419 Lovett Blvd\, Houston\, Texas 77006
