SUMMARY:Kombucha & Ginger Beer
DESCRIPTION:Want to learn to make homemade Kombucha and Wild Fermented root drinks like Ginger Beer\, Turmeric Beer\, and Sunchoke Beer? They are all fermented to be full of probiotics (healthy gut!)\, nonalcoholic (less than .5 percent)\, and simple to make. Kombucha is a fermented tea that acts as an adaptogen\, which helps the body maintain homeostasis. The wild root drinks bring wild yeasts and bacteria from your environment into your system\, which makes for a happy gut. The main ingredients are simple; water\, the root or SCOBY\, and something sweet. \nCome sit among the fields of vegetables and fruits at Finca Tres Robles and practice the ancient art of fermentation. Leave with a flavored bottle of your favorite drink or a starter culture to make your own. \n10% of the proceeds to this class go to AIDA and Survival International. Two organizations that champion tribal peoples and defend their land and culture. As we celebrate their wisdom in our class we will also be sending support for their way of living to continue. \nScholarships are available. DESCRIPTION:Dear CCRS Supporters\, \n  \nThe Center for Critical Race Studies at the University of Houston—Downtown offers a space of retreat and reflection for all people\, no matter your race\, ethnicity\, ability\, gender\, sexuality\, religion\, class\, caste\, or national origin.  We welcome you to a critical and frank consideration of racialized violence in our country as well as  manner in which institutions engage in racist actions under the guise of policy change. The Center recognizes that individuals and institutions are neither neutral nor colorblind. \nTo that end\, we proudly present the 2017 Scholar-in-Residence Mr. Tim Wise. Mr. Wise is the author of seven books\, including his highly-acclaimed memoir\, White Like Me: Reflections on Race from a Privileged Son\, as well as his latest text Under the Affluence: Shaming the Poor\, Praising the Rich and Sacrificing the Future of America. He will visit UHD from January 31st—February 2nd\, 2016. Feel free to invite your colleagues\, family\, and friends to take part in the weeklong events.
