SUMMARY:Teaching Peace Literacy: A Two-Day Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Teaching Peace Literacy\nLearn about Peace Literacy* and why we need it to bring healing in our world of challenging and ever-changing traumas. AND learn how to TEACH Peace Literacy.\nBe prepared for a hands-on learning experience for developing curriculum and activities that will provide skills for and resiliency in future peacemakers.\nThis is a two-day event. To get the most out of the training\, please plan to attend both days. Registration covers both days and includes lunches. \nLocation: \nThe Dominican Center for Spirituality \n6501 Almeda Road\, Houston\, TX 77021 \nDate and Time: \nSaturday\, March 2 Check in begins at 8:30 am. The day’s program ends at 3 PM. \nSunday\, March 3 The training reconvenes at 12:30 PM and ends at 3:30 PM. \nWorkshop Registration: \nSign up HERE    $40 registration fee is suggested\, but flexible pricing and scholarships are available to those of slim means! \nPaul K. Chappell\, our workshop leader\, is\, surprisingly\, a West Point graduate\, Iraq War veteran\, and former army captain. Along this unusual path\, he became convinced that people need to be as well trained in waging peace as soldiers are in waging war.  Chappell is the Peace Literacy Director of the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation and the author of six books\, most recently Soldiers of Peace. Lecturing across the country and internationally\, he also teaches college courses and workshops on Peace Literacy and Peace Leadership and leads a Peace Literacy curricular development team for k-12 and higher education. \n *Peace literacy provides a practical skill set of insights based on empathy\, conscience\, reason\, and realistic hope that inoculates us against manipulation and the seductive lies that spread hatred\, dehumanization\, and irrational fear.  Learn more at Peace Literacy.\n \nTwo days\nMarch 2\, 2019 –  9AM-3 PM  Breakfast Snacks & Lunch provided. DESCRIPTION:Building Solid Relationships: At Home\, Work\, School\, Anywhere! is the title of this Nonviolent Communication event facilitated by CNVC Certified Trainer\, Bren Hardt\, long-time member of HPJC.  Staying present and grounded with skills to manage one’s emotions\, speaking with authenticity\, clarity and in a connecting (rather than disconnecting) way\, and listening with curiosity for both content and meaning are the skills of NVC – Nonviolent Communication.  NVC is a globally respected communication set of skills that is serving leaders around the world to be more effective and to build a culture of peace. DESCRIPTION:Christ the King Evangelical Lutheran Church invites you to a monthly environmental education web meeting series whose theme in 2019 is environmental issues and what you can do. \nIn March\, Hyun-Min Hwang\, associate professor at Texas Southern University\, Department of Environmental & Interdisciplinary Studies\, will speak on plastic pollution in the oceans. Pollution has been deemed one of the most significant environmental issues facing North America by the U.N.’s Global Environmental Outlook\, the U.N.’s flagship environmental assessment. Professor Hwang will educate on the latest research and reports on plastic pollution\, so that you thoroughly understand the issue.
