SUMMARY:Energy Conservation for Houses of Worship
DESCRIPTION:Faith communities across the country are facing rising utility costs\, aging facilities\, and shrinking operating budgets. Yet many houses of worship can reduce their energy expenses by 10–30% through practical\, low-cost operational improvements and strategic capital planning. \n\n\n\nIn this engaging virtual presentation\, Certified Energy Manager and Energy For Purpose President Colby May will share real-world examples from hundreds of churches\, seminaries\, and schools. Participants will learn how to identify common sources of wasted energy\, prioritize the most cost-effective improvements\, understand available utility incentives\, and develop a long-term strategy that reduces operating expenses while improving comfort and extending equipment life. More importantly\, attendees will discover how lowering utility costs can free additional financial resources for their mission —turning energy stewardship into mission stewardship. Time for interactive discussion with the speaker will be provided. \n\n\n\nThis virtual event will use the WebEx platform. Registrants will receive a separate e-mail with WebEx connection details.  All registrants will get a link to the recording of this talk. \n\n\n\nContact Lisa Brenskelle at gcs.lrc@gmail.com with any questions.  Register for this event on www.eventbrite.com at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1995593283230. \n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:"The Low Turn Row" at The Museum of Fine Arts Houston + Wendy Watriss and John Simmons
DESCRIPTION:Post-film discussion with Wendy Watriss\, photographer and cofounder of FotoFest; filmmaker John Simmons; and associate producer Celia Lightfoot\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nExperience the stories of people who settled the U.S. frontier and their histories\, which have shaped the social and political character of the nation today. Wendy Watriss and Frederick Baldwin\, life partners\, founders of FotoFest\, and acclaimed freelance photographers\, left global reporting in 1971 to explore the American experience. In an iconic series of photographs\, they lived with people whose families developed an East Central Texas county. With Emmy Award–winning cinematographer John Simmons\, Watriss and Baldwin revisited this area decades later\, photographing and recording residents about the complexities of integration and community history.
