DESCRIPTION:Join us on Sunday\, June 24 in Montrose to hear about and discuss paths to realizing the the goal of high-quality public transportation! We’ll have a panel of local transit leaders\, hear remarks from elected officials\, and break out into groups to work shop strategies for statewide coordination. \nMATCH is accessible by the Red Line and the 9 bus route. \nAbout the program \nOne Thousand Texans for Transit is a statewide coalition of public transportation activists. Together\, we will combine our local expertise and work together to affect meaningful advances in transit support and funding at the state level. SUMMARY:Town Talk: Being a Transgender & Nonbinary Ally
DESCRIPTION:In honor of LGBTQIA+ pride\, our Town Talk this month will focus on how to be an ally to the transgender and nonbinary community. Lou Weaver\, queer transman & transgender programs coordinator for Equality Texas\, will moderate a panel discussion with members of the transgender and nonbinary community. Over the course of the evening\, Lou will explore the simple language and terminology we can use as allies\, when talking about the transgender and nonbinary community. \nRegister at https://events.mobilizeamerica.io/hcdp/event/1102/ \nModerator: Lou Weaver (he/him/his)\, a queer transgender man\, is the Transgender Programs Coordinator for Equality Texas and Co-Director of TransForward – Creating Culturally Competent Transgender Health Program. Lou works to elevate the voices of transgender Texans\, utilizing the TransVisible Project\, a first-of-its-kind public education campaign. Lou volunteers with the political and community engagement committees of the Houston chapter of the Human Rights Campaign\, and serves on HRC’s National Board of Governors as co-chair of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee. He was recently awarded the Katy Caldwell Humanitarian Award from the University of Houston’s LGBTQ Alumni Association \nPanelists: Emmett Schelling (he/him/his) is the executive director of the Transgender Education Network of Texas (TENT)\, a statewide TGNC led and focused organization that advocates for gender diverse Texans through policy and education. \nJoelle Salatarski (she/her/hers) is an active member of the Houston trans community. She has helped plan and execute the Houston Transgender Unity Banquet. During the day she is an automotive mechanic. Joelle has three children and two grandchildren. \nKathy Green(she/her/hers) is a parent of two kids one who loves cub scouts and is a trans youth. She works as a nurse at Texas Children’s Hospital. \nMike Webb (they/them/theirs) identifies as a non-binary person\, they have been involved in politic for awhile and are the current president of the GLBT Political Caucus. \nJessica Zyrie (she/her/hers) is a model\, creative director\, stylist\, advocate\, and the first ever transgender female to be a clinical case manager at the Montrose Center. Jessica uses her platform to promote equality and education regarding communities that are largely discriminated against including racial issues\, LGBTQ equality\, defeating health stigmas\, and more. \nJoin us afterwards for one of the best drag shows in town and help us raise a few dollars for a local LGBTQIA+ youth charity.
