SUMMARY:Living the Change
DESCRIPTION:Scientists tell us that we must reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030 (vs. a 2010 baseline)\, and that 25 – 30% of all needed emissions reductions must come from individuals/households. 50% may seem like a very high hurdle. But\, it translates to only a 10%/year reduction\, starting now. And\, you may have already made some lifestyle improvements since 2010 that reduced your emissions\, so you could already be well on your way toward the 50% reduction goal.   \n\n\n\nParticipants in this individualized course will leave with a personal plan to achieve the 50% emissions reduction goal through targeted lifestyle improvements that will also save them money. The course was developed in response to the Walk on Earth Gently multifaith statement\, inspired by religious teachings to turn away from consumerism & to seek balanced relationships with all people and the planet. Walk on Earth Gently invites you into a journey of Living the Change that the world needs. This program will work individually with participants\, on dates and times that work for both them and the facilitator.  Those already far along on their carbon footprint reduction journey may only need a few sessions with the facilitator to complete their 50% carbon footprint reduction plan\, whereas others may need more sessions.  Accept the Walk on Earth Gently invitation and commit to a sustainable lifestyle.   \n\n\n\nRegister for this course on www.eventbrite.com at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1975018418255. \n\n\n\nFor more information\, please contact Lisa Brenskelle at gcs.lrc@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:Faithful Resilience: A Study on Climate Resilience for Faith Communities
DESCRIPTION:Faithful Resilience is a six-part weekly study on climate resilience for faith communities. The climate crisis has arrived. Faith communities must not only react\, but also prepare. Over the last decade\, hurricanes have intensified\, wildfires have burnt stronger\, and heat waves have baked our cities. These events can only be expected to get worse in the next decades. Most of our faith communities are not ready for these climate-driven disasters. Yet\, the communities who will be most threatened by climate change also have an opportunity to play a pivotal role in building resilience in their towns and cities. Whether a faith community has a large facility\, land\, social capital\, or something else\, those assets can be channeled into building climate resilience in preparation for the coming physical and spiritual storms of the climate crisis. Join us for this six-week weekly exploration and consider how your faith community can become a force for climate resilience. \n\n\n\nTo learn more/register\, see: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1975013162535. \n\n\n\nContact Lisa Brenskelle at gcs.lrc@gmail.com for more information. \n\n\n\nTopics for the six-week exploration of how faith communities can become a force for climate resilience for your community include: \n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\nWeek 1: The Land We Inhabit \n\n\n\nWeek 2: The Fierce Urgency of Now \n\n\n\nWeek 3: Resilience & Restoration \n\n\n\nWeek 4: Climate Migration \n\n\n\nWeek 5: Building Resilience \n\n\n\nWeek 6: Resilient Religion/Spirituality

SUMMARY:Building New Cycles of Peace: Centering Former Combatants as Agents of Peace
DESCRIPTION:We will explore the unique and powerful roles of youth—including those formerly involved in armed conflicts—in building and sustaining peace. \n\n[Time and Venue]\n\n Time: 7:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. (Pacific Standard Time)\, Wednesday\, 25th February 2026\n\n 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.\, 26th February (Japan Standard Time)\n 8:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. (Pakistan time）\n 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. (DRC time)\n 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. (UK time)\n\n\n Online (Zoom webinar)\n\n[Registration]\nhttps://charterforcompassion.org/what-we-do/support-youth/building-new-cycles-of-peace.html\n[Contents]\nIn recent years\, the role of youth has been increasingly emphasized in international agendas such as the SDGs\, Women\, Peace and Security (WPS)\, and the Youth\, Peace\, and Security (YPS) agenda. However\, while the potential and critical role of young people is being recognized\, youth who have been involved with non-state armed groups—who may be some of the most essential actors in conflict resolution and peacebuilding—are often overlooked and viewed merely as security threats by the international community.\n\nAt this event\, we are honored to have two members of GTY: Mr. Abdul Wahid Sesay\, who was a former combatant of the Revolutionary United Front (RUF) in Sierra Leone\, and Mr. Julien Vikemba\, co-founder and executive director of Sote Pamoja in the Democratic Republic of Congo\, specializing in supporting the rehabilitation\, reconciliation\, and reintegration of former combatants. The discussion will be moderated by Ms. Atma Kaur Narinder\, Social Impact Director.\n\nDrawing on Wahid’s lived experience of involvement with a non-state armed group\, and Vikemba’s expertise as a researcher and practitioner in peacebuilding\, the discussion will highlight the complex challenges faced by former youth combatants toward reintegration\, while also exploring the unique and powerful roles that such youth can play in advancing and sustaining peace.\n\nThis co-hosted event by GTY and CFC aims to shed light on the unique potential of youth combatants with lived experience of armed conflict through a dialogue. By amplifying their voices and fostering genuine dialogue\, we aim to raise awareness of their critical roles in peacebuilding. Listening to their experiences is essential to deepening global discussions on their rights\, as well as on the support needed for their reintegration and empowerment as Agents of Peace.\n\nRegister from here: https://charterforcompassion.org/what-we-do/support-youth/building-new-cycles-of-peace.html

SUMMARY:No Kings Protests - Find One Near You & Stand Up for Democracy!
DESCRIPTION:As stated on the No Kings web site: \n\n\n\nIn America\, we have No Kings.\n\n\n\nWe are showing up together again on Saturday\, March 28.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhen our families are under attack and costs are pushing people to the brink\, silence is not an option. We will defend ourselves and our communities against this administration’s unjust and cruel acts of violence. America does not belong to strongmen\, greedy billionaires\, or those who rule through fear. It belongs to us\, the people. \n\n\n\nAs President Trump escalates his attempts to control us\, it is on us\, the people\, to show that we will fight to protect one another and our country. If he believes we will roll over and allow him to take our freedoms\, he is mistaken. We are coming together again on March 28 because we know we can overcome this repression when we unite. \n\n\n\nStand up with thousands of your fellow Americans at an event near you on March 28\, and show that we want a democracy\, not an oligarchy. Bring a sign and/or wear a shirt with a slogan\, or just come to enjoy the day with others who also want to deserve our democracy and to show our elected leaders how we want them to lead (or get out of the way). And be prepared to have some fun and enjoy some humor during the event\, too! \n\n\n\nNote: These are all peaceful\, non-violent demonstrations\, protected by the Constitution. You’re not likely to see people there in opposition\, but if you do see a few\, just smile and avoid any confrontations. Police will be there to help keep counter-demonstrators\, if any\, away from the rest of us to avoid any trouble they may want to cause. \n\n\n\nHundreds of protests have been organized all across the US\, including at least 12 in the Houston area\, at different times of the day on March 28. \n\n\n\nFor details about location and times\, and to sign up for a protest near you\, see nokings.org\n\n\n\n There are also optional online trainings listed on that page\, if you are interested in any of them. \n\n\n\nFor more information\, see indivisible.org. Indivisible is one of the co-sponsors of these events. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nhttps://www.nokings.org

SUMMARY:A Faithful and Hopeful Response to Willful Climate Denial Policies
DESCRIPTION:Since January 2025\, the President\, his Congressional yes-men/women\, and the courts have been systematically overturning existing legislation and passing new limitations on successful climate policies\, withdrawing from global commitments\, and gutting scientific funding that was making a difference in combatting the climate crisis.  At the same time\, many within the faith community have remained hopeful and are taking steps to counter these negative influences from the current administration.   \n\n\n\nIn this webinar\, join Mel Caraway\, retired United Methodist pastor\, as he looks at positive steps that are being taken to combat ecological uncertainty. Time for interactive discussion with the speaker will be provided. \n\n\n\nPlease register for this talk on www.eventbrite.com at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1981951471203. SUMMARY:Saving Water While Saving Souls: Water Conservation at Houses of Worship
DESCRIPTION:Houses of worship have long been in the business of renewal. As it turns out\, they can also lead by example at renewing and saving our water resources. \n\n\n\nAcross traditions and denominations\, faith communities can embrace One Water thinking—the idea that all water has value and should be managed holistically\, whether it falls from the sky\, flows from a faucet\, or enters a drain. \n\n\n\nXeriscaping replaces thirsty turf with native plants that thrive on faith\, sunshine\, and minimal irrigation. Rainwater harvesting systems capture rooftop blessings and store them for landscape use or even indoor nonpotable and potable use. Even air conditioners can join the congregation! AC condensate harvesting collects the steady drip of distilled water that would otherwise disappear into the storm drain. Inside\, conservation measures such as efficient fixtures and leak detection quietly trim consumption without disrupting services (of any kind). Graywater reuse systems redirect gently used water from sinks to irrigate grounds or reuse indoors for non-potable purposes. Atmospheric water generation can even pull moisture directly from the air: loaves and fishes\, but for humidity. \n\n\n\nFor ecclesiastical campuses ready to go further\, on-site blackwater treatment and reuse systems close the loop\, safely recycling wastewater for nonpotable uses. The result is resilience\, lower operating costs\, and an example of environmental care in action. In the end\, saving water is less about sacrifice and more about intention. Houses of worship can model a quiet truth: conservation is not only practical—it’s faithful.  An opportunity for Q&A with the speaker will follow. \n\n\n\nRegister for this event on www.eventbrite.com at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1984398383985.
