SUMMARY:Interfaith Justice Advocacy Workshop
DESCRIPTION:June 2025 is the perfect time to refresh your advocacy knowledge and set goals for engaging your faith community around issues that impact the planet and its peoples. Why is it such a perfect time? Getting started now gives you plenty of time to get ready for elections in 2026.   \n\n\n\nFaith communities typically don’t want to be seen as “political\,” but\, as we’ll cover in this workshop\, faith communities can—and should—provide important education and leadership roles in nonpartisan civic engagement. Join Bee Moorhead\, executive director of Texas Impact\, an interfaith justice advocacy organization\, and her colleagues\, to talk about what that looks like “in real life\,” and do a deep dive into Texas Impact’s specific Houston-area resources and projects.   \n\n\n\nRegister for this event on www.eventbrite.com at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1344713928559. \n\n\n\nContact Lisa Brenskelle at gcs.lrc@gmail.com with any questions. \n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Cultivating Change: New American Farmers and Their Role in a Greener Houston
DESCRIPTION:Urban Houston faces both environmental and social challenges: food deserts\, high resource costs\, and barriers for refugees-turned-farmers seeking to build sustainable livelihoods. In this talk\, we’ll explore how Plant It Forward leverages government and private support to secure land for New American farmers\, reducing carbon footprints through hyper-local production and empowering communities through equitable land access. \n\n\n\nYou’ll learn practical steps you can take today: from advocating for land-use policy reforms and donating or leasing land\, to volunteering your time and choosing locally grown produce at farmers’ markets. This program will be recorded and the recording distributed to all registrants. Time for interactive Q&A with the speaker will be provided. \n\n\n\nPlease register for this talk on www.eventbrite.com at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/cultivating-change-new-american-farmers-their-role-in-a-greener-houston-tickets-1360869109139. \n\n\n\nContact Lisa Brenskelle at gcs.lrc@gmail.com with any questions.

SUMMARY:Earth and Soul book discussion group
DESCRIPTION:Facing directly into the devastation of climate chaos and biodiversity loss\, Earth and Soul takes readers on a soul journey through grief and loss to also claim the beauty\, joy and possibilities available when we reconnect with Earth. As we follow the author’s compelling personal experiences and engagingly lyrical stories of whales\, cedars\, sparrows\, and more\, we see the necessity and urgency of learning from the wisdom of our kin in the natural world. \n\n\n\nWriting at the intersection of spirituality\, ecology\, and story\, the book charts a course for living deeply connected to Earth in ways that are both vitally important for and uniquely suited to these times. Even now when the world as we once knew it is ending and a new story lies beyond what we can envision\, we hold the potential to lay stepping stones toward a diverse and vibrant world of oneness and mutual flourishing. \n\n\n\nJoin a virtual small group to read and discuss this thought-provoking and inspirational book each week during the Season of Creation (observed by Christians from Sept. 1 through Oct. 4). If you can’t attend every week\, attend as you are able. Contact Lisa Brenskelle at gcs.lrc@gmail.com with any questions. \n\n\n\nRegister for Earth and Soul book discussion group on www.eventbrite.com at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1506035987179.   \n\n\n\nContact Lisa Brenskelle at gcs.lrc@gmail.com for more information.

SUMMARY:Rothko Concert for Peace 2025
DESCRIPTION:Are you having trouble quieting the noise around you? Step into a morning of music and poetry that invites stillness\, reflection\, and peace\,\n\nJoin us for a contemplative morning of music and poetry\, presented in collaboration with Jaipur Literature Festival (JLF) Houston. This special gathering will weave together the rich traditions of Indian classical music and the powerful voices of local poets\, offering a space for reflection\, connection\, and peace.\n\nJoin us for this moving celebration of peace\, where music and poetry converge to honor the spirit of the day.\n\nThe program will feature the internationally acclaimed Aditya Prakash Ensemble\, bringing the depth and beauty of Karnatik music—a South Indian tradition rooted in the intricate interplay of Raga (melody)\, Tala (rhythm)\, and Sahitya (lyrics). With Aditya Prakash on vocals\, Sruti Sarathy on violin\, and Rohan Krishnamurthy on mridangam\, the ensemble will share a dynamic blend of traditional repertoire\, contemporary interpretations\, and spontaneous improvisations—an experience both timeless and rare in Karnatik performance.\n\nAdding to this atmosphere of peace and creativity\, we will also hear original poetry from Houston Poet Laureate Reyes Ramirez and young voices from The Fay School\, whose words will invite us to reflect on unity\, harmony\, and hope.\n\nPay what you can\, $15 – $25\n\nFor more information and to reserve seats\, see https://rothkochapel.org/experience/events/register/2619

SUMMARY:Living the Change
DESCRIPTION:Scientists tell us that we must reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030 (vs. a 2010 baseline)\, and that 25 – 30% of all needed emissions reductions must come from individuals/households. 50% may seem like a very high hurdle. But\, it translates to only a 8%/year reduction\, starting now. And\, you may have already made some lifestyle improvements since 2010 that reduced your emissions\, so you could already be well on your way toward the 50% reduction goal.   \n\n\n\nParticipants in this individualized course will leave with a personal plan to achieve the 50% emissions reduction goal through targeted lifestyle improvements that will also save them money. The course was developed in response to the Walk on Earth Gently multifaith statement\, inspired by religious teachings to turn away from consumerism & to seek balanced relationships with all people and the planet. \n\n\n\nWalk on Earth Gently invites you into a journey of Living the Change that the world needs. This program will work individually with participants\, on dates and times that work for both them and the facilitator.  Those already far along on their carbon footprint reduction journey may only need a few sessions with the facilitator to complete their 50% carbon footprint reduction plan\, whereas others may need more sessions.  Accept the Walk on Earth Gently invitation and commit to a sustainable lifestyle.   \n\n\n\nRegister for this course on www.eventbrite.com at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1507561550179. Meeting dates and times are individually scheduled.  For more information\, please contact Lisa Brenskelle at gcs.lrc@gmail.com.

This workshop will display how clean energy has become the cheapest source of energy and is doubling every three years. 95% of new electricity generation in 2024 was solar\, wind\, or battery-supplied from clean energy. By 2050\, humanity can expect to accomplish twice as much with only a fraction of current emissions. Fossil fuels waste 2/3 of the energy created. Clean energy adoption is as unstoppable as was the Industrial Revolution. Yet some are trying to slow it down. \nJoin us for a fun day of triumph to celebrate the success of widespread renewable energy adoption and learn how you can advocate for change! This event is our major fundraiser for the year\, and it provides funds for our activities including Peace Camp Houston\, our Working Groups\, micro-grants for area non-profits\, our web site\, and online calendar of events. \n\n\n\nWe do ask that you make your reservation by Nov. 2 — earlier is better! \n\n\n\nFood\, Drinks\, Location\n\n\n\nWe will not have a full dinner\, but there will be plenty of food and drinks for all – another reason we need everyone to reserve seats in advance\, so we’ll know how much food and how many chairs and tables will be needed. \n\n\n\nThe ceremony will be Sunday afternoon\, Nov. 9 (after the general elections) at the Dominican Sisters of Houston Spirituality Center Meeting Room\, 6501 Almeda Rd\, Houston 77021. This is the same location of last year and we are thrilled that the Sisters are providing this venue for us again. This is just east of Hermann Park\, north of Holcomb Blvd. There is plenty of free parking. Doors open at 2 pm\, with food/ drinks/ reception starting then\, with the program starting around 45 minutes later. Pre-registration is required!

SUMMARY:【Season of Giving Special Event】Dialogue on Humanitarian Assistance for Gaza and New Pathways to Peace
DESCRIPTION:For nearly 80 years\, the Palestinian issue has been defined by ongoing conflict\, occupation\, and hardship\, profoundly affecting the stability of both the Middle East and the wider international community. The situation has further deteriorated since October 2023. In Gaza\, a severe humanitarian crisis continues\, with reports indicating that more than 69\,000 people have lost their lives\, over 20\,000 of whom were children.\n\nAlthough a ceasefire agreement was reached in October 2025\, attacks have persisted\, and living conditions remain extremely critical. Many displacement camps lack even the most basic necessities\, particularly access to safe drinking water and other essential supplies. In addition to these urgent needs\, efforts and initiatives needed to advance sustainable peace are still far from sufficient.\n\nAmid these circumstances\, Accept International has been delivering humanitarian assistance in displacement camps in northern Gaza\, and has supported more than 14\,000 people to date. Alongside humanitarian aid\, we have also been facilitating a new dialogue track that involves Palestinian youth\, including conflict actors\, to overcome internal divisions and help create new pathways toward peace.\n\nIn this event\, Dr. Yosuke Nagai\, Executive Director of Accept International\, together with a Palestinian youth leader\, will share insights on the current situation in Palestine and our ongoing efforts on the ground. We will also discuss what is needed to build a lasting peace for Palestine and invite participants to actively join and support this movement.\n\n \nRegister Now\n \n▼Event Details\n▷Date：Sat. December 20th\, 3:00 ~ 4:30 PM (CST / UTC−6)[Check-in starts at 2:55 PM(CST / UTC−6)]\n* Please note that the event may be extended by approximately 10 minutes.\n▷Location：Zoom\n* The event URL will be sent to participants upon registration.\n\n \n▷Participation Fee：Free\n \n▼Speaker\nYosuke Nagai\nExecutive Director of Accept International\, and Founder of the Global Taskforce for Youth Combatants\n\nSince 2011\, Dr. Yosuke Nagai has led the design and implementation of deradicalization\, reintegration\, and rehabilitation programs for disengaged members of non-state armed groups in conflict-affected contexts such as Somalia and Yemen. He has also actively promoted dialogue and reconciliation initiatives in Palestine. Dr. Nagai is currently a Visiting Fellow at the University of Oxford and has served as a Visiting Fellow at the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights. In addition\, he contributes to the work of various United Nations bodies through participation in Youth Advisory Boards\, Expert Group Meetings\, and Technical Working Groups. He holds a PhD in Social Science from Waseda University and a Master’s degree in Conflict Studies from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).\nA young leader from Gaza\n \n\nA young Palestinian leader who continues her work on the ground in Gaza will be joining as a speaker.\n\n \nRegister Now\n \n\nPlease Note:\n* If you need to cancel on the day of the event\, we kindly ask that you notify us at contact@accept-int.org at least one hour before the event begins.

SUMMARY:Faith Perspectives Panel: Faith & Water
DESCRIPTION:Water is the foundation of life\, and a basic human right. The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development states that freshwater resources are of major environmental\, economic and social importance and that the ocean is vital for human activities and well-being. But\, issues of water pollution and scarcity put this precious resource in peril. The Interfaith Environmental Network of Houston invites you to hear multiple faith perspectives on the topic of Faith & Water. A panel of speakers of a variety of faith backgrounds will each address this topic through the lens of their faith. An opportunity for Q&A with the panel will follow. People of all faiths are encouraged to attend\, as are representatives of local environmental non-profits that would like to work with people of faith on environmental issues.  Please join us!  This event has been organized by the Interfaith Environmental Network of Houston\, which acts to empower the faith community in the greater Houston area to act and advocate on behalf of the environment. \nRegister for this event on www.eventbrite.com at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1975013719200. All registrants will receive the recording of the event. \nFor more information about this event\, or the Interfaith Environmental Network of Houston\, please contact Lisa Brenskelle at gcs.lrc@gmail.com.

But\, it translates to only a 10%/year reduction\, starting now. Walk on Earth Gently invites you into a journey of Living the Change that the world needs. \n\n\n\nRegister for this course on www.eventbrite.com at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1975018418255. \n\n\n\nFor more information\, please contact Lisa Brenskelle at gcs.lrc@gmail.com.
