DESCRIPTION:  \nCalling people of all faiths or no faith at all in Houston to care for our shared environment during Earth Month!  We will engage in hands-on environmental stewardship at the Willow Waterhole Conservation Reserve\, including mulching around plantings\, cleaning up the park and painting. This event will offer activities for all ages and skill levels. Meet at the Schwartz Gazebo in the park to sign in. SUMMARY:Without the Development of All Nations\, there Can Be No Lasting Peace for the Planet
DESCRIPTION:A little more after the war in Ukraine\, which in reality had started in 2014\, escalated with the Russian military operation\, it has become very clear that the real issue is not Ukraine.  It is a proxy war between the U.S. Great Britain and NATO\, on the one side\, and Russia on the other — with a conflict with China also looming.  The real issue is that the nations of the Global South are trying to shed the colonial order\, this time for good\, and they have now become the Global Majority.  Driving the war danger is the systemic breakdown of the trans-Atlantic financial system\, with its over $2 quadrillion in unpayable financial assets.  The world urgently needs a new security and development architecture.  This two-day event will bring together leaders from some two dozen nations to discuss how to bring that about.

SUMMARY:2023 Rothko Chapel Óscar Romero Award Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:Since 1986\, the Rothko Chapel has been given the Óscar Romero Award in recognition of courageous\, grassroots human rights advocacy. This award is named in honor of Saint Óscar Romero of San Salvador\, who was assassinated in March 1980 while conducting Catholic Mass in a local hospital chapel. He is recognized internationally for his vocal opposition against oppression and has inspired countless others to advocate for justice even in the face of great economic and political pressure. \nThe 2023 Rothko Chapel Óscar Romero Award recognizes individuals and organizations exercising courageous\, grassroots\, human rights advocacy to further civil rights in the United States. Trained in India\, Zee leverages her toolkit of yoga\, meditation\, breathwork\, sound healing\, and Reiki\, to ensure that all people of    color have the tools to thrive despite any challenges that race or gender might present. Founder of Reclaiming FlowLLC\, she works with employee resource groups and Diversity\, Equity & Inclusion teams at companies like Google\, Visa\, and AMC Networks. She is a graduate of both Harvard College and Harvard Business School. \nWHAT:  Black People Breathe (March 14\, 2023 // Penguin Random House) draws on Zee’s professional   expertise and her perspective as a Black woman to offer thirty-three mindfulness exercises\, Breathwork practices\, and meditative tools centered on healing and survival for those who have endured racial trauma. DESCRIPTION:Please join the Center for the Healing of Racism for the 5th annual Dialogue on the Plantation\, March 11-12\, 2023. We will travel together by bus to experience a powerful tour of three Louisiana plantations.  Our first stop on will be St. Joseph Plantation\, a working sugar cane plantation east of New Orleans. Oprah Winfrey’s hit drama Queen Sugar was filmed there. Our next stop is Laura Plantation\, a Creole plantation. Creole life in Louisiana exhibited a unique\, characteristic thread: the understanding that the family operated as a business and that the business was family. We’ll conclude our first day together with dinner and dialogue. \nAfter a continental breakfast the next morning\, we take a 90-minute tour of Whitney Plantation\, a genuine landmark built by enslaved Africans and their descendants. As a site of memory and consciousness\, the Whitney Plantation is meant to pay homage to all the enslaved humans not only on the plantation itself but elsewhere in the American South. Whitney Plantation is one of the few plantations to focus only on the enslaved people who were forced to work there and not on its opulence. DESCRIPTION:The Center for the Healing of Racism will present Dialogue: Racism\, a two-day intensive workshop that educates participants about racism and facilitates the process by which they can begin to counter the effects of racism on their lives\, empowering them to interrupt the cycle of racist attitudes. The workshop provides a safe\, respectful and loving atmosphere for a diverse group of people to learn new information\, share experiences\, dispel fears and guilt\, and get to know each another. For a fee of $20\, social workers can earn 14 CEUs (MUST attend entire two day program). \nDialogue: Racism will be on two consecutive Saturdays\, February 11 & 18\, 2023 from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM at 3412 Crawford Street\, Houston\, TX 77004.
