SUMMARY:Interfaith Justice Advocacy Workshop
DESCRIPTION:June 2025 is the perfect time to refresh your advocacy knowledge and set goals for engaging your faith community around issues that impact the planet and its peoples. Why is it such a perfect time? Getting started now gives you plenty of time to get ready for elections in 2026.   \n\n\n\nFaith communities typically don’t want to be seen as “political\,” but\, as we’ll cover in this workshop\, faith communities can—and should—provide important education and leadership roles in nonpartisan civic engagement. Join Bee Moorhead\, executive director of Texas Impact\, an interfaith justice advocacy organization\, and her colleagues\, to talk about what that looks like “in real life\,” and do a deep dive into Texas Impact’s specific Houston-area resources and projects.   \n\n\n\nRegister for this event on www.eventbrite.com at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1344713928559. \n\n\n\nContact Lisa Brenskelle at gcs.lrc@gmail.com with any questions. \n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Rain Barrels for The Houston-Area Community
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to a rain barrel workshop. Join us on Sunday\, September 21 to learn about the benefits of rain barrels\, get one for your home/house of worship and learn how to install it on your property. \n\n\n\nRain barrels not only conserve water\, a precious natural resource\, they also help to keep water clean and reduce flooding\, thereby making Houston a more resilient city.  And\, these barrels have been re-purposed\, avoiding plastic waste. \n\n\n\nRegistration includes one rain barrel\, one connecter kit and training to install them. Supplies of rain barrels are limited\, so please register early.  Rain barrels will be available to be picked up on Sunday\, Sept. 21\, from 2 – 3 p.m. in the church parking lot. Installation training will take place afterward\, from 3 – 3:30 p.m.\, with Q&A/wrap-up from 3:30 – 4 p.m.\, in the church building. \n\n\n\nGalveston Bay Foundation will share a presentation discussing water conservation tools like Water My Yard\, the environmental benefits of reducing freshwater usage and collecting rainwater\, as well as proper rain barrel preparation\, installation instructions and tips. If you can’t stay for the training\, recorded training is available. \n\n\n\nThis workshop is organized by Galveston Bay Foundation in partnership with the Interfaith Environmental Network of Houston\, and is sponsored by Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages. \n\n\n\nRegister to participate at: www.galvbay.org/events. \n\n\n\nFor more information\, contact Lisa Brenskelle at gcs.lrc@gmail.com.
