SUMMARY:“Under G-d” – Free Screening and Panel Discussion
DESCRIPTION:This 22-minute documentary film weaves together the stories of an Indiana mother and activist\, a Florida rabbi\, and lawyers throughout the country fighting abortion bans as a violation of religious freedom — and defending democracy by preserving the Constitutional guarantee of church-state separation. The film will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Rachel Laser\, President and CEO of AU\, and Rabbi Joshua Fixler of Congregation Emanu El. Kyle Riley of Texas Impact will moderate the discussion.

SUMMARY:Voter Suppression: Christian Nationalism's Attempts to Control Who Votes
DESCRIPTION:Texas’ fight over the Election Integrity Protection Act of 2021\, known as SB1\, and the problems it led to in Texas’ primaries this spring have drawn national attention. Long before the 2020 election\, Christian right leaders were promoting legislation to limit voter access. Americans United has written frequently about how Christian nationalist organizations have been working with their allies to erect barriers to voting under the rubric of “election integrity” since the 2020 election\, but most people aren’t aware of the connection. \nJournalist and author Sarah Posner and Americans United Vice President of Strategic Communications Andrew Seidel have studied and written about the religious right/Christian nationalists for years. They will shed light on Christian nationalism’s involvement in voter suppression nationally and in Texas. Bruce Elfant will moderate and share some of his real-life experiences as Travis County’s voter registrar since 2013.

SUMMARY:Church-State Separation Affects Everyone
DESCRIPTION:Christian nationalists are using the law to force everyone to live according to their beliefs and widen inequality in our communities and country. Separation of church and state guarantees religious freedom\, which protects everyone’s right to practice the religion of their choice or no religion at all\, as long as they don’t harm others. \n  \nFollowing a brief annual business meeting\, three Houston leaders with deep\, personal connections to reproductive freedom\, LGBTQ equality and racial justice will explain how religious doctrine is an underlying factor in these issues\, and how—in obvious or subtle form—it often is linked to problematic actions of governments or publicly-funded private organizations.
