  • HPJC 2016 Peacemaker Awards Dinner with Sonia Nazario

    University Hilton Hotel, University of Houston 4350 University Drive, Houston, TX, United States

    HPJC's annual awards dinner brings together peace and justice activists from the southeast Texas area for our 2016 celebration of peacemakers.

    Our national peacemaker and keynote speaker will be Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Sonia Nazario, author of the bestseller "Enrique's Journey", a true story about a young Honduran boy's search for his mother who left home to find work in the US to pay for food for her starving family.

    Our local peacemaker awardees will be Bren Hardt, Ashton Woods, and Jackie Young. Each of them will get to tell us about the important work they do. A special presentation will also be given to Casa Juan Diego.

    The final reservation deadline was Nov. 7, so we're sorry but no more reservations may be accepted.
    Parts of the program, including Sonia Nazario's talk, may be broadcast later on KPFT's The Progressive Forum (Thursdays, 7-9 pm).

    HPJC is bringing Roy Zimmerman back to Houston in a benefit to raise funds for Peace Camp Houston. In 14 albums over 20 years, Roy has brought the sting of satire and parody to the struggle for peace and social justice.

    He makes fun of right wing politicians, hypocrites, war profiteers, large multinational corporations, religious bigots, and hate-mongers, while entertaining you with stories and music.

    The Foreign Policy Alliance is hosting its first fundraiser, a Jazz Concert, Sunday evening, September 2, featuring noted Houston jazz pianist Bob Henschen's quartet, featuring saxophonist Warren Sneed, and the popular and wildly eclectic group, the Free Radicals. Proceeds go to support the work of the Foreign Policy Alliance, which is bringing together left and right in support of a non-interventionist U.S. foreign Policy.
