SUMMARY:Tell the Mayor No Hostile Corporate Takeover of HISD
DESCRIPTION:Come to City Council to demand the city to BACK OFF of a corporate takeover plan for four black and brown HISD schools. \nSign up to speak for Tuesday afternoon Public Session by calling the City Secretary’s office at 832.393.1100\, sending an email to citysecretary@houstontx.gov or coming by the office on the public level of the City Hall Annex\, 900 Bagby\, Houston 77002 by 1:30 p.m. that Tuesday. \nIf you cannot attend\, contact your district rep\, the five at large reps\, and the mayor’s office (contact info at the bottom of this description). \nTHE FACTS\n~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~\nThe City of Houston has established a “nonprofit” astroturfed special interest group with the doublespeak title “Coalition for Educational Excellence and Equity in Houston”\, designed to mask the hostile corporate takeover over HISD schools. The registered agent is Juliet Stipeche\, the Mayor’s point person on education. The board comprises three wealthy right wing benefactors: Trini Mendenhall\, Corbin Robertson Jr\, and Stephanie Paige. \nPaige is the education contact for ALEC\, a right wing takeover group that disguises the self interest of the wealthy as the advancement of society through philanthropy. ALEC has a deep\, well-documented public track record of establishing beachheads in education and other public sectors\, dividing and conquering communities\, and selling them for parts. \nRobertson is a billionaire coal magnate known for expansive dark money efforts undermining climate research through fake advocacy to protect their bottom line by papering over steep environmental damage that disproportionately impacted poor communities in the United States. \nThese people have NO BUSINESS being anywhere NEAR anything that is supposed to be for the public good\, much less in control of the future of our children. \nCity of Houston Contact Info\nMayor’s Office\n(713) 697-9221 \nTwitter: @sylvesterturner\nPress Secretary: @iammarybenton\nDeputy Press Secretary: @tmakrivera \nDistrict A Councilmember Brenda Stardig\nPhone: 832.393.3010\nFAX; 832.393.3302\nE-Mail: districta@houstontx.gov\nTwitter: @brendastardig \nDistrict B Councilmember Jerry Davis\nPhone: 832.393.3009\nFAX; 832.393.3291\nE-Mail: districtb@houstontx.gov\nTwitter: @davisdistrictb \nDistrict C Councilmember and Mayor Pro-Tem Ellen Cohen\nPhone: 832.393.3004\nE-Mail: districtc@houstontx.gov\nTwitter: @ellencohen \nDistrict D Councilmember Dwight Boykins\nPhone: 832.393.3001\nFAX; 832.393.3201\nE-Mail: districtd@houstontx.gov\nTwitter: @dwightboykins \nDistrict E Councilmember Dave Martin\nPhone: 832.393.3008\nFAX: 832.393.3279\nE-Mail: districte@houstontx.gov\nTwitter: @cmdavemartin \nDistrict F Councilmember Steve Le\nPhone: 832.393.3002\nE-Mail: districtf@houstontx.gov\nTwitter: @SteveLe HTX \nDistrict G Councilmember Greg Travis\nPhone: 832.393.3007\nFAX; 832.395.9571\nE-Mail: districtg@houstontx.gov\nTwitter: @travisdistrictg \nDistrict H Councilmember Karla Cisneros\nPhone: 832.393.3003\nE-Mail: districth@houstontx.gov\nTwitter: @karla4houston \nDistrict I Councilmember Robert Gallegos\nPhone: 832.393.3011\nE-Mail: districti@houstontx.gov\nTwitter: @robertgallegosi \nDistrict J Councilmember Mike Laster\nPhone: 832.393.3015\nFAX; 832.395.9423\nE-Mail: districtj@houstontx.gov\nTwitter: @_mikelaster \nDistrict K Councilmember Martha Castex-Tatum\nPhone: 832.393.3016\nFAX: 832.395.9410\nE-Mail: districtk@houstontx.gov\nTwitter: @marthacastext \nAt-Large 1 Councilmember Mike Knox\nPhone: 832.393.3014\nFAX: 832.395.9472\nE-Mail: atlarge1@houstontx.gov\nTwitter: @mikeknox2015\nAt-Large 2 Councilmember David Robinson\nPhone: 832.393.3013\nFAX; 832.395.9455\nE-Mail: atlarge2@houstontx.gov\nTwitter: @dwr4hou \nAt-Large 3 Councilmember Michael Kubosh\nPhone: 832.393.3005\nFAX; 832.393.3251\nE-Mail: atlarge3@houstontx.gov\nTwitter: @kuboshmichael (Note: this account is protected).\nAt-Large 4 Councilmember Amanda Edwards\nPhone: 832.393.3012\nFAX; 832.393.3327\nE-Mail: atlarge4@houstontx.gov\nTwitter: @amanda4houston \nAt-Large 5 Councilmember Jack Christie\nPhone: 832.393.3017\nFAX; 832.395.9426\nE-Mail: atlarge5@houstontx.gov\nTwitter: @drjackchristie

SUMMARY:National Day of Action - Families Belong Together
DESCRIPTION:Houstonians- UNITE! Join Indivisible Houston\, PSR Houston\, FIEL and other allied groups Saturday\, June 30th at 10 AM for a rally at City Hall and march to Ted Cruz’s office to show solidarity with families and opposition to burdensome\, ignorant\, divisive immigration law. \nThe horrors of the deportation machine and the Administration’s decision to kidnap children and use them as pawns in exchange for a fantasy real estate construction project along the southern border rip apart families and destroy communities. \nJoin us to demand that our publicly elected employees take the following actions: \n1) End the new DHS policy of family separation in order to REUNITE FAMILIES; \n2) Vote against the Goodlatte Immigration plan; \n3) Defund ICE (an agency established after 9/11 with expanded powers beyond standard\ncustoms checks and enforcement); and \n4) End private prison donations and require reps return all private prison donations- both individual and PAC. \n#EndFamilySeparation #AbolishICE #AbolishCBP \nORGS\nIndivisible Houston\nPantsuit Republic Houston\nFIEL\nPantsuit Republic State\nBlack Lives Matter Houston\nAFL-CIO\nTOP\nDSA Houston \n– \nDia Nacional de Accion\nDia Nacional de Accion \nLa humanidad no requiere ciudadania \nSabado 30 de Junio 10:00 AM \nReunion en City Hall (Palacio Municipal) para marchar a la oficina de el Senador Ted Cruz \nPARAR LA SEPARACION DE FAMILIAS \nDetalles \nAmigo de Houston – UNETE!
