Jaime Gonzalez\, prairie expert\, will describe pocket prairies\, how they can benefit your faith community\, the larger community\, and the environment. Beth Clark\, Landscape Architect\, will discuss how to create and maintain pocket prairies. DESCRIPTION:A year ago\, our ministers directed church staff to change the Sunday lunch menu to plant-based food. What inspired them to act?   For a year\, our church’s Climate Action Team has hosted monthly plant-based potlucks.   The potlucks turn out five times as many participants as the monthly lectures that we used to hold. That’s inspiration! \nEating plant-based for our climate will help as much as solar\, reports Project Drawdown.  Plus\, health experts are encouraging us all to eat more plant-based foods.  Eating more plant-based foods makes it easy for everyone to help the planet and their own health. Nan Hildreth\, leader of the Climate Action Team at First Unitarian Universalist Church\, and team member Karoline Mueller\, Ph.D.\, will tell the story of their church’s journey toward plant-based eating\, but they’d also like to hear from the audience about their experiences at their faith communities. SUMMARY:Spring 2023 Interfaith Environmental Stewardship Event
DESCRIPTION:  \nCalling people of all faiths or no faith at all in Houston to care for our shared environment during Earth Month!  We will engage in hands-on environmental stewardship at the Willow Waterhole Conservation Reserve\, including mulching around plantings\, cleaning up the park and painting. This event will offer activities for all ages and skill levels. Meet at the Schwartz Gazebo in the park to sign in. Metro bus line 7 stops nearby\, and line 49 is not far.  Tools/supplies will be provided. Most of our faith communities are not ready for these climate-driven disasters. Yet\, the communities who will be most threatened by climate change also have an opportunity to play a pivotal role in building resilience in their towns and cities. Whether a faith community has a large facility\, land\, social capital\, or something else\, those assets can be channeled into building climate resilience in preparation for the coming physical and spiritual storms of the climate crisis.
