She is an editor of Peace in Our Times and of the New York City-based Indypendent. She is the co-director of the VFP Chorus. \nMATTHEW HOH is a Senior Fellow at the Center for International Policy and former Director of the Afghanistan Study Group\, advocating for change in U.S. strategy in Afghanistan. A former State Department official\, Matt resigned in protest from his post in Afghanistan in 2009 over U.S. strategic policy and goals. Matthew served in Iraq in 2004-2005 in Salah ad Din Province and in 2006-2007 in Anbar Province as a Captain in the USMC. He has participated in VFP delegations to Standing Rock\, Okinawa\, and Palestine\, and is a member of the advisory boards of Expose Facts\, World Beyond War\, and Veterans For Peace. \nTARAK KAUFF served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper from 1959 to 1962. He has been a member of the Veterans For Peace Board of Directors for the past five years. Tarak has held a lead role in VFP’s Direct Action Team\, organizing and leading actions at the National Archives\, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial\, and multiple actions at the White House. He took part in the Gaza Freedom March in Cairo. DESCRIPTION:As part of Campaign Nonviolence-Houston‘s continued effort to educate the masses of the struggles that communities are going through and their creative ways of liberating themselves\, we have partnered with Black Rose/Rosa Negra to bring you this film SIN FRONTERAS/NO BORDERS produced by Sur Negro Communicaciones\nhttps://eng.surnegro.tv/ \nThis film chronicles the grassroots efforts of creative\, courageous\, and dynamic activists that are striving to liberate their communities from injustice and demolishing all kinds of borders which seek to marginalize and oppress the poor. We believe lifting up the efforts of others is an act of solidarity so we are offering this film screening to showcase these wonderful activists but also to help raise money so that more cities can be added to this project and the young chilean students who produced the film\, can pay off some of the accomolated debt that has arisen while making this film.  \nThe screening begins @ 6PM with sign-in/welcome/tabling. If you have an organization that would like to sponsor this event and table\, please send an email to cnvhouston1@gmail.com. It is $100 to sponsor and table. There is a door fee of $10 but NO ONE will be turned away if you can not pay. One of the most important tools for building a culture of peace\, is self expression. Therefore\, we invite all poets\, writers\, resisters\, lovers\, painters\, and creatives of every kind to come and share your peace. Tell us how you live peace. Show us how you live justice. Guide us through your art journey and let’s build a creative bond together. \nWe will begin promptly at 7PM and should finish around 10PM. SUMMARY:Medea Benjamin & Ann Wright on U.S. Foreign Policy in Trump Administration:  What will it be and how will it affect you?
DESCRIPTION:As part of a “Texas Tour\,” Medea Benjamin and Ann Wright will speak in Houston.  Medea will draw upon her first-hand knowledge of the Middle East to share her insights\, and she’ll introduce her latest book\, Kingdom of the Unjust; Behind the U.S.-Saudi Connection.  Ann was recently – once again – captured in international waters and imprisoned by the Israelis while attempting to reach shore on the Women’s Boat to Gaza.  She has also traveled to Japan\, Korea\, Russia\, Germany\, Greece\, and elsewhere this year and can speak on the human and environmental costs of war and militarism around the globe and the possible effects of a Trump administration’s policies on all of us. \nMedea Benjamin is the co-founder of the women-led peace group CODEPINK and the co-founder of the human rights group Global Exchange.  She has been an advocate for social justice for more than 40 years.  Described as “one of America’s most committed — and most effective — fighters for human rights” by New York Newsday\, and “one of the high profile leaders of the peace movement” by the Los Angeles Times\, she was one of 1\,000 exemplary women from 140 countries nominated to receive the Nobel Peace Prize on behalf of the millions of women who do the essential work of peace worldwide.  She is the author of nine books\, including Drone Warfare: Killing by Remote Control and Kingdom of the Unjust:  Behind the U.S.-Saudi Connection\, and her articles appear regularly in outlets such as The Huffington Post\, Common Dreams\, Alternet\, The Other Words\, and TeleSUR. \nAnn Wright is a 29-year US Army/Army Reserves veteran\, a retired United States Army colonel and retired U.S. State Department official\, known for her outspoken opposition to the Iraq War. She received the State Department Award for Heroism in 1997\, after helping to evacuate several thousand people during the civil war in Sierra Leone. She is most noted for having been one of three State Department officials to publicly resign in direct protest of the 2003 Invasion of Iraq. Wright was also a passenger on the Challenger 1\, which along with the Mavi Marmara\, was part of the Gaza flotilla. She served in Nicaragua\, Grenada\, Somalia\, Uzbekistan\, Kyrgyzstan\, Sierra Leone\, Micronesia and Mongolia. In December\, 2001 she was on the small team that reopened the US Embassy in Kabul\, Afghanistan.
