SUMMARY:Gandhi Peace Walk in Houston
DESCRIPTION:The 11th anniversary of the Gandhi Peace Walk in Houston is set for 4:45 PM on Sunday Oct 2\, 2016. On-line registration is now open. Please register at the website: http://www.GandhiLibrary.org.  Please participate and make this 11th anniversary walk the largest so far!  The Grand Marshal this year is Mr. Swatantra Jain. \nThe walk will start and end at the Miller Outdoor Theater (MOT) in the Hermann Park. The route is around the McGovern Centennial Gardens on to the Marvin Taylor Trail inside Hermann Park\, about 5K. The end of the walk will signal the start of the “1000 Lights for Peace”\, an international cultural program\, now a tradition in Houston\, concluding with the spectacular lighting of 1000+ candles.  Please plan to walk for peace\, and attend the program. \nPlease register for the walk by Sep 23 to allow time to plan for T-shirts\, water\, security detail\, etc. Please specify your T-shirt size when registering. There is a request for a $20 donation per adult and $10 per student\, however any amount is welcome. Donations are optional; your participation is more important. You may pay online\, bring a check on Oct 2 made out to “Mahatma Gandhi Library” or bring cash. \nCarpooling to Hermann Park is recommended. Free parking is available in several lots in the Park including the Zoo lot; paid garage parking is next to the Museum of Natural Science. The Centennial Gardens lot can be reached from Hermann Drive. There may be street parking available on Hermann Drive. The check-in desk at MOT will open at 3:45 PM. Please arrive early to find parking\, collect your T-shirt\, water and to get set for the walk.
