DESCRIPTION:The Center for the Healing of Racism will celebrate Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month on Wednesday\, May 18\, 2022 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM with a screening of “The Chinese Exclusion Act” at 3412 Crawford Street\, Houston\, TX 77004. The film will be followed by a facilitated dialogue. \nOn May 6\,1882 — on the eve of the greatest wave of immigration in U.S. history — President Chester A. Arthur signed into law a unique piece of federal legislation. Called the Chinese Exclusion Act\, it singled out\, as never before\, a specific race and nationality for exclusion\, making it illegal for Chinese workers to come to America\, and for Chinese nationals already here to ever become citizens of the United States.
