SUMMARY:Refuse Fascism Mass Meeting-#OutNow Movement
DESCRIPTION:Join us in planning how to build enough people to “take to the streets” to fight this Trump/Pence Fascist regime. \nWe can no longer tolerate the constant attacks on our Constitution\, the consistent pardons of war criminals\, flagrant incarceration of immigrants and asylum seekers. What kind of person have I become if I continue to sit and wait for an election to determine IF my nation’s people have civil rights or not. \nJoin us as we plan our nonviolent yet aggressive plans to demonstrate what kind of government we want and we deserve as human beings. \nThe world is watching us. We will not be silenced. We will not live in shame or acquiesce to Fascism’s unfolding. Fascism is unfolding at an alarming rate. Check out the pointedly detailed articles on the RefuseFascism.org site. \n  \nSunday\, February 23 at 1:00 pm. St. Stephen’s Community Center on the corner of Sul Ross and Woodhead. 1755 Sul Ross Houston 77098

SUMMARY:Scarred Lands\, Wounded Lives: The Environmental Footprint of War
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Sunday\, November 5th for a viewing of the film\, Scarred Lands\, Wounded Lives: The Environmental Impact of War. This event is sponsored by Transition Houston\, the Houston Peace and Justice Center\, Houston 350.org. Contributions are welcome and will benefit Houston Peace News. \nIt will be shown at one of the St Stephen’s School buildings which is located diagonally across from St Stephens Episcopal Church’s Community House on Sul Ross. Sunday Nov. 5 at 7 pm.(Doors open at 6:30 pm) \nAbout the Film\n \n\nScarred Lands and Wounded Lives is a compelling documentary exploring the under-reported environmental impacts of war and preparations for war. The film confronts the immensely broad ecological and human ramifications of everything from technological development and natural resource exhaustion to weapons testing and modern warfare itself. \nEcosystems around the world are in distress from forces of humanity’s own making: increasing population\, unsustainable demands on natural resources\, habitat and species loss\, and climate change. One of the most destructive of human behaviors – war – is not commonly included as a contributor to the growing global environmental crisis. \nYet\, in all its stages\, from the production of weapons through combat\, military operations pollute land\, air\, and water\, destroy entire ecosystems\, and drain limited natural resources. \nUsing archival material from the Civil War through more recent wars\, along with expert testimony and eyewitness accounts\, the film clearly presents the environmental and human cost of combat\, and argues for public scrutiny of the ecological and human impact of war as essential to a more sustainable – and secure – world. \n\nContributions welcome for Houston Peace News. \nSponsored by HPN\, HPJC (Houston Peace & Justice Centeer\, Transition \nHouston\, Houston 350.org \n Contact: Lee Loe\, 713.524.2682; lee.t.loe@gmail.org
