DESCRIPTION:Event page for last minute updates at https://www.facebook.com/events/2589897321240365/ \n  \nSeparation from a parent at Christmas time is difficult on any child but for the poor and innocent child\, separated by a two inch plate of glass\, it may be hardest of all. These blameless young enter a world of jailers and bars\, cold and frightening\, in a futile grasp at normalcy during perhaps the single most important family time of the year. \n  \nThe emotional scars they experience and which may last a lifetime are ministered at Harris County Adult Detention Center by Santa Claus and several dozen elves who await these precious children as they walk out of the building. It is at this point that a miracle often occurs which can immediately be seen on the faces of these little ones. In the midst of the Fat Jolly Gentleman and piles of presents you can see their shaken faith in life return and a light of rekindled joy flicker in their eyes. \n  \nOn Christmas Eve this year\, End Mass Incarcation Houston\, in association with The Positive Black Male Association of Houston\, Houston Peace and Justice Center\, and Bering United Methodist Church\, will change the world with Love. We will give gifts to children\, visiting their jailed parents\, as they emerge from the two largest jails in the city. Join us as we try to heal some of the wounds inflicted by this world on the most innocent in it. In this we are in part healed too. Come out and receive the greatest gift of all. DESCRIPTION:Toy and teddy bear distribution to children on Christmas Eve. \nHaving a parent behind bars is traumatic enough for children\, but to a young child at Christmas time it may be an emotional disaster.  When children go into a jail to see their mother or father during the holidays\, the very real potential for psychological scarring exists.  A group of men\, women and children since 2013 have taken these kids\, the most innocent victims of mass incarceration\, into their hearts and their arms at Christmas time at the jails in Houston.  They have donated time\, money and energy to ensure these little humans receive at least a little glimmer of happiness when they emerge from the repressive atmosphere of the Harris County Adult Detention Center.  Walking out of the doors there\, they see a crowd of smiling faces standing behind Santa Claus and a huge pile of presents.  To see the transformation on these small faces from sadness and confusion to wonder and pure joy changes the lives of all who experience it. \nYou are cordially invited to join us at the jail on Christmas Eve this year as we carry these children a message of hope and love. To Volunteer contact:  Rebecca Lavergne: cmason4103@yahoo.com \nIf you cannot make it but still want to help\, please go to www.hpjc.org and note that the donation is for the Christmas at the Jail event.  Snail mailers can send tax free donations to Houston Peace and Justice Center\, PO Box 66234\, Houston Texas 77266.   \nThere is much wrong in the world today\, this is an opportunity to be a part of something which is clearly good and positive.   \nMerry Christmas to you and your family!

DESCRIPTION:Santa At The Jail is a project sponsored by HPJC\, End Mass Incarceration\, and other organizations to provide children visiting their parents at the jail a toy as they leave.  Imagine having to leave your parent behind bars on Christmas Eve.  Help us bring a little comfort to these kids as they have to leave their parents behind.  Santa will be there to distribute hugs and toys\, and you can too. \nPlease make your monetary donation using the HPJC website and mark your donation “Santa At The Jail”.  We will do your shopping for you\, so please make your contribution by December 15.  If you would like to participate in the distribution or in any other way\, please contact Constance Gray at constancejgray@gmail.com  or call 713-2040-4010 for more details. \n  \n
