SUMMARY:"If a Tree Falls" Film Screening and Vegan Tamale Sale
DESCRIPTION:June 11 is the International Day of Solidarity with Marius Mason and All Long-Term Anarchist Prisoners! We will be screening If A Tree Falls: A Story of the Earth Liberation Front (2011)\, writing letters and cards of support to anarchist political prisoners\, and selling vegan tamales at a sliding scale to raise money for Marius!\n \nIf A Tree Falls tells the remarkable story of one cell of the Earth Liberation Front\, by focusing on the transformation\nand radicalization of one of its members\, Daniel McGowan. Part coming-of-age tale\, part cops-and-robbers thriller\, the film interweaves a verite chronicle of Daniel on house arrest as he faces life in prison\, with a dramatic recounting of the events that led to his involvement with the group. And along the way it asks hard questions about environmentalism\, activism\, and the way we define terrorism. \nChildren are very welcome and Solidarity Houston has a children’s corner with books\, crafts\, and games. \nSolidarity Houston is wheelchair accessible space through the front entrance\, and has one gender neutral wheelchair accessible bathroom (does not have an accessibility bar). The space is not currently scent free. Service animals always welcome\, non-human animal companions are welcome as well. If you have any other accessibility needs or questions\, please email us at houston_abc@riseup.net! \nParking is in the back of the space\, along the train tracks. We recommend you don’t park in the Mi Charro lot\, as they are known to tow people\, but if you need an accessible space to park make sure you don’t park in a marked spot. Bikes can come into the space. The new green line of the metro rail has a stop right in front of the space\, for those using public transportation.

SUMMARY:A Tilted Guide to Being A Defendant: Book Presentation and Community Discussion
DESCRIPTION:From Black Lives Matter to Standing Rock to the resistance against the Trump regime\, thousands of people across the country have faced arrest and prosecution in recent years for their political actions and activity. They find the legal system confusing\, alienating\, and isolating\, and the government is often successful at using criminal charges to disrupt\, destroy\, and neutralize radical and revolutionary struggles for liberation. \nJoin us for this presentation and discussion from the Tilted Scales Collective (tiltedscalescollective.org) to talk about how to leverage your goals and values–personal\, political\, and legal–in your court battle\, and how to leverage your court case to strengthen our revolutionary struggles for liberation. By thinking and acting strategically and being in solidarity with each other\, we can turn these terrible situations in movement-building ones! \nThe event is based on the ideas in the recent book A TILTED GUIDE TO BEING A DEFENDANT\, which draws on the wisdom of dozens of people who have weathered the challenges of trials and incarceration\, including many former and current political prisoners/prisoners of war. This event is part of a nationwide tour aiming to help strengthen our movements on all fronts and take away the power of criminal charges. The book will be available for sale at a dicount at the event! SUMMARY:Conflict Transformation and Nonviolent Communication Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join Ethan Hughes of the Possibility Alliance for a 2 hour workshop on Conflict Transformation and Nonviolent Communication.  Ethan has studied NVC for many years and practices it daily at his permaculture homestead.  He has organized and been part of restorative circles\, and notes that his community wouldn’t exist without them.\n\nThis class will focus on NVC in group situations like Food Not Bombs.  What approach can be taken when someone in like cuts and a fight breaks out?  What if someone wants to call the police for a non-emergency?  How can we understand peoples motivations and what drives them to anger and aggression?\n\nThe Possibility Alliance is an 80-acre nonviolent and permaculture land-based community in La Plata Missouri.  They live without electricity\, grow most of their own food\, and commute by bike as much as possible.  They also participate in Superhero rides\, where they do random acts of kindness in neighboring cities and towns.\n\nTo find out more about Ethan and the PA\, please checkout this podcast episode.\nhttp://www.thepermaculturepodcast.com/2012/ethanhughes/\n\nDate: December 17th\nTime: 3pm-5pm\nLocation: Solidarity Houston\n6733 Harrisburg Blvd\, Houston\, TX 77011\nCost: Free
