Get in the Way: The Journey of John Lewis Screening at PRH
January 16, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Get in the Way is the first biographical film about John Lewis, a respected legislator and elder statesman who co-led the the historic 1965 Selma March known as Bloody Sunday. Today he continues to practice nonviolence in his determined fight for justice. The film is a riveting portrayal of John Lewis’ personal journey of courage, searing disappointments and hard-won triumphs, as over the decades he inspires others to stand up and resist.
Project Row Houses presents this screening in the Historic Eldorado Ballroom, a venue instrumental in establishing a cultural identity for African-American Houstonians. The screening will be held on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, on the precipice of a new era presidential leadership, in hopes of sparking a community dialogue around art and activism. The post-screening conversation will look at and build upon the history of activism and community organizing, inspiring strategies for and reinvigorating those who want to “Get in the Way.”.
The screening is free and open to the public.
