Houston Peace and Justice Center Condemns Racism and Violence in Charlottesville
The Houston Peace and Justice Center (HPJC) condemns in strongest possible words the racism and violence perpetuated by the white nationalists in Charlottesville. We call on all political, civic and religious leaders to strongly condemn this racism and violence.
Our hearts go out to the peaceful protesters and others who were killed or injured during this event.
The violence in Charlottesville should motivate the citizens of this nation to discuss the real meaning of patriotism. HPJC believes that a true patriot is a person who rejects racism, bigotry and violence of all types. A true patriot is concerned about the welfare of all the people who live in the United States. He/she is respectful of all people regardless of their race, religion, ethnicity, economic status, immigration status, age, disability, sex and sexual preference.
We call on all citizens to reject the racism and bigotry that has plagued this nation since its inception. Our goal is to create a Beloved Community where all people are respected, the basic needs of all people are fulfilled, and where disagreements are resolved without violence.
