The Houston Peace and Justice Center (HPJC) , a diverse organization that upholds human and civil rights for all people regardless of race, religion, ethnicity or sexual orientation, deplores the recent mass shooting and deaths in Orlando, Florida. Our hearts go out to the victims of this heinous crime as well as their families, friends and the citizens of Orlando.
HPJC upholds nonviolence as a core value that must be embraced by all people if we are ever to evolve as a human society.
We agree with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. who stated, “We must live together as brothers or perish as fools”. Today, let us honor the victims of this crime by rejecting violence as the solution to any of the problems we face in today’s world.
