Meeting 2: Resist Fracking on Shores of Lake Houston

August 23, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

We have very reliable information that a fracking company, which has been buying mineral rights on the shores of Lake Houston, intends to start fracking in late September or early October. This will have impacts on Lake Houston water, the primary source of water for Houston, & the health of those, especially women & children, living near the fracking operations. More info. below!
Date: August 23rd
Time: 7pm
Location: 5915 Spring Lodge Dr, Humble, TX 77345
The presenters at both events will include:
Priscilla Villa who worked in the oil and gas industry for two years which led her to her pursue a Master’s degree where she did research on the health risks faced by residents in the Eagle Ford Shale. She works for Earthworks and is currently based out of the Houston.
Sharon Wilson, who is also with Earthworks, has worked on this issue for over a decade and is probably the most knowledgeable person in Texas on fracking.
Jere Locke of the Texas Drought Project who has worked on fracking for five years.

Some of the major issues with this fracking are:

  • The average frack involves about 700 very toxic chemicals some of which overtime will enter the lake, Houston’s primary water supply supply.
  • The average frack uses uses well over 100 tons of chemicals
  • There are very good studies that show that these chemicals cause all sorts of horrible illnesses especially for women and children. Lake Houston could very well be the next Flint Michigan.
  • In many places fracking has caused earthquakes
If you have questions or want to order a lunch at noon please contact Jere Locke of the Texas Drought Project at 512-416-7170-h/o or 512-203-8858-c or jerelocke – [at] – yahoo – [dot]- com.
