  • Houston Rapid Response Network Training

    The Houston Rapid Response Network is a group of people on-call to show up for people and families impacted by current anti-immigration laws. The training will review actions to help counteract deportation and the splitting up of families in our state. The training also covers how documented allies can play both small and large roles in the network and how all of us together can show up in solidarity with the undocumented and migrant people in our community.

  • Texas Migrant and Refugee Leadership Academy

    Do you have what it takes?  Calling on all migrants and refugee leaders in the State of Texas to attend a statewide migrants and refugee leadership training to be held in Dallas, Texas on Friday, June 15* to Sunday, June 17.

    This all day training event offers migrants and refugees the opportunity to come together to share experiences, connect with each other, and develop the skills necessary to advocate on issues of importance to migrants and refugees in Texas.

    The training is designed to hone your leadership skills; create opportunity for networking; and incentives for participants to take the experience back to their local communities and advocate for issues of concern to the broader migrant and refugee community.  Our goal is to lift up the voices of all refugees in order to create more welcoming communities in Texas.

  • Assistance for Refugees: Where We Are, Where We’re Going, and How You Can Help

    Please join the Honorable Keith Ellison, the Anti-Defamation League, and American Constitution Society for a conversation with Rebecca Heller, director and co-founder of the International Refugee Assistance Program.

    Rebecca will be discussing the legal framework for refugee and asylum applicants, the current policies and laws surrounding this issue, and ways the legal community and others can help.

  • Creating Inclusive Communities Teacher Workshop

    In correlation with the exhibition, "The Faces of Syrian Refugees," Holocaust Museum Houston will host a one-day education workshop for teachers in the Greater Houston area. In efforts to offer resources and information on refugee resettlement and awareness, refugee advocacy groups will work in conjunction with the HMH Education Department to provide activities, literature, and lessons that teachers can take back to their classrooms.

    This workshop is open to educators who work directly with refugee students, educators learning more about the refugee experience, and/or how students can become active advocates.

    The first ever Houston Youth Voters Conference will take place on Saturday, September 15th at Rice University from 9am-4pm! We will be bringing together 5 Houston-area universities: Rice, UH, UHD, TSU, and Lone Star College to talk about the importance of voting, how to vote, how to get other students on our campuses to vote, and how to mobilize around specific policy issues that we care about. You will get to hear from some awesome guest speakers about youth voting and empowerment and meet with other passionate students from all over Houston!

    Building Solid Relationships: At Home, Work, School, Anywhere! is the title of this Nonviolent Communication event facilitated by CNVC Certified Trainer, Bren Hardt, long-time member of HPJC.  Staying present and grounded with skills to manage one's emotions, speaking with authenticity, clarity and in a connecting (rather than disconnecting) way, and listening with curiosity for both content and meaning are the skills of NVC - Nonviolent Communication.  NVC is a globally respected communication set of skills that is serving leaders around the world to be more effective and to build a culture of peace.

    The Center for the Healing of Racism will present Dialogue: Racism, a two-day intensive workshop that educates participants about racism and facilitates the process by which they can begin to counter the effects of racism on their lives, empowering them to interrupt the cycle of racist attitudes. The workshop provides a safe, respectful and loving atmosphere for a diverse group of people to learn new information, share experiences, dispel fears and guilt, and get to know each another.
