Courtyard by Marriott Houston Medical Center 7702 South Main Street, Houston

Camp Congress for Girls Houston Fall 2018 is a leadership program that introduces girls ages 9 to 15 to politics. Camp begins with a lesson on the structure of our political system. Once elected to Congress and sworn in, the newly installed members of Congress will learn how to introduce a bill, debate the merits of the bill, lobby fellow legislators, collaborate with the Executive branch and finally vote on the proposed bill. Camp will culminate with a ceremonial signing of the bill by our Ms. President. Girl Scouts participating in Camp Congress for Girls Houston will earn a Citizen Legacy Badge for participation. All participants will receive Certificate of Completion.

Quaker Barter Fair

Live Oak Friends Meeting House 1318 W. 26th, Houston, TX, United States

Black Friday offers the challenge to BUY NOTHING!  The Quaker testimonies of Simplicity, Community and Stewardship encourage Friends to find creative ways to care for the earth and each other, and we want to extend this opportunity to others in the community.  Creating a space to practice thinking together in a new way about how we place value on objects and services within our community seems like a worthwhile way to observe the day after Thanksgiving.

Tell the Mayor No Hostile Corporate Takeover of HISD

Houston City Hall 901 Bagby Street, Houston

Come to City Council to demand the city to BACK OFF of a corporate takeover plan for four black and brown HISD schools.

The City of Houston has established a "nonprofit" astroturfed special interest group with the doublespeak title "Coalition for Educational Excellence and Equity in Houston", designed to mask the hostile corporate takeover over HISD schools. The registered agent is Juliet Stipeche, the Mayor's point person on education. The board comprises three wealthy right wing benefactors: Trini Mendenhall, Corbin Robertson Jr, and Stephanie Paige.

These people have NO BUSINESS being anywhere NEAR anything that is supposed to be for the public good, much less in control of the future of our children.
