In one of the most diverse cities in the country, institutional stakeholders are seeking to address tensions between police and their communities, manage the intersection of immigration enforcement and the criminal justice system, reduce local jail populations, and reform prosecutions. Meanwhile, the Houston community grapples with the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

Demonstration against George W. Bush

George W. Bush will be honored at the Lyndon Baines Johnson Moral Courage Award Dinner at the Hilton Americas-Houston hotel, 1600 Lamar St., on Thursday, May 24. Bush should be imprisoned for life for war crimes and crimes against humanity--not honored for moral courage.
 
As Governor of Texas, Bush approved more than 150 executions. As President, his invasion of Afghanistan in 2001 led to the deaths of over 250,000 people. His invasion of Iraq in 2003 led to the deaths of more than one million people. And U.S. troops remain in both countries today.

The Bush administration tortured and abused prisoners in these countries, in Guantanomo Bay, and in secret sites around the world. Bush promoted passage of the PATRIOT Act, which increased unconstitutional surveillance and reduced civil liberties. Bush's neglect during Hurricane Katrina contributed to the suffering and deaths of hundreds of poor people, predominantly African Americans, in New Orleans. As one commentator has remarked, "The blood on Bush's hands will never dry."

Former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper – Facts and Fears: Hard Truths from a Life in Intelligence

When he stepped down in January 2017 as the fourth United States director of national intelligence, James Clapper had been President Obama's senior intelligence adviser for six and a half years, longer than his three predecessors combined. He led the U.S. intelligence community through a period that included the raid on Osama bin Laden, the Benghazi attack, the leaks of Edward Snowden, and Russia's influence operation during the 2016 U.S. election campaign.

In Facts and Fears: Hard Truths from a Life in Intelligence, Clapper traces his career through the growing threat of cyberattacks, his relationships with presidents and Congress, and the truth about Russia's role in the presidential election. He describes, in the wake of Snowden and WikiLeaks, his efforts to make intelligence more transparent and to push back against the suspicion that Americans' private lives are subject to surveillance.

3) Defund ICE (an agency established after 9/11 with expanded powers beyond standard

4) End private prison donations and require reps return all private prison donations- both individual and PAC.

Join Reginald Moore and the Convict Leasing and Labor Project for a community meeting about the future of the #SugarLand95. The CLLP and the National Black United Front of Houston strongly believe the remains should be reburied in the sacred ground where they were found. Fort Bend ISD is doing everything it can to block that from happening.

We need to show FBISD, Houston and the world this isn't just a "black" issue. They can't just plan a quick "Black History Month" presentation and be done with it. This is one of the most important local issues of our time and the outcome is going to shape our awareness of racial history for decades to come.

Wiping the Tears of 7 Generations

An hour long documentary about the 1890 Wounded Knee Massacre and historical trauma and multi-generational grief that impacted 7 generations of the 1890 Wounded Knee massacre descendants and the Wounded Knee community. The film at this event will be to commemorate the anniversary of the Massacre at Wounded Knee December 29th, 1890 on the Pine Ridge reservation of the Lakota Sioux in South Dakota.

There will be art for sale that has been donated by artists, William Song, John Benson and Ryan White to support the filmmaker's sacred activism (he will also be there) and possible documentary on Border Issues and Justice related to undocumented immigrants and their families and children.
