Outdoor Music, Peace and Justice Festival in a beautiful, shaded setting at the Unitarian Fellowship of Houston, with indoor space in case of bad weather. Music! Food! Information Tables! Networking! Fun!

Bring lawn chairs and picnic lunch, or food cooked by Food Not Bombs will be available on site for a donation.

Backspace Rocks the A,B,Cs fundraiser for Moms Demand Action

White Oak Music Hall 2915 N Main St, Houston

Backspace is a rock-n-roll covered band started in 2007, a group of like-minded (and like-hearted) business professionals who want to benefit the Houston community through their music. Their annual show is a themed “one-time-only” performance for charity. The theme for the 2018 show is “Backspace Rocks the A, B, C’s” wherein Backspace will play a 26-song set by 26 bands representing every letter of the alphabet. The concert will be held Saturday, March 24, 2018, at White Oak Music Hall. Come support Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America and other Houston charities that are serving our youngest in need, at a time when we need it the most.

Christ the King Evangelical Lutheran Church invites you to a monthly environmental education web meeting series whose theme in 2018 is Stewardship. At the March web meeting, we welcome John Ferguson, soil scientist & owner of Nature's Way Resources, a Houston-based composting, mulch & recycling firm.   John's talk is an introduction to a new model of soil science and fertility management called the “Soil Food Web”.  It explains how biological (organic) methods work and how they save you time and money in your gardening projects by preventing many problems. The biological methods are sustainable; greatly reduce water requirements, prevent problems, eliminate air and water pollution, sequester carbon, and lower total management costs from property management to erosion control. Learn from the man whose personal garden has been featured in Better Homes & Gardens and several gardening books. After John’s talk, there will be time for Q&A.

The Coalition for the Cesar Chavez march invites community members to join us & take part as we march in peace & power in honor of one of our greatest champions of workers rights & economic justice, Cesar Chavez.

March 31 is the birthday of Cesar Chavez, one of the most important labor activists in the second half of the twentieth century. A march, rally, and film screening will be held to honor him in Houston on Saturday, March 31. Participants will assemble in the Sellers Brothers parking lot at 601 N. Cesar Chavez Blvd. at 11 am.Then, at 11:30 am, we will march in the street to Hidalgo Park, 7000 Avenue Q, for a rally featuring Danza Azteca Taxcayolotl, speakers, poets, music, and more. At 4:30 pm, “Cesar’s Last Fast,” will be shown at Solidarity Houston, 6733 Harrisburg Blvd.

The World Affairs Council of Greater Houston and Brazos Bookstore present Sean Penn, discussing his new novel, Bob Honey Who Just Do Stuff. This is a ticketed event. Movies play a vital role in documenting history in the United States. For years, such films have sparked controversy and conversation.

Join Dr. Greg Garrett and guest panelists for this challenging and enlightening two-day event: Friday – Saturday, April 6 and 7, at the Hines Center in Downtown Houston. We are thrilled to host an event that will highlight culture and ignite dialogue for months to come.

This two part event will feature three notable movies addressing race and reconciliation in America, interspersed with commentary by Dr. Garrett and guest panelists to be announced. Refreshments and lunch on Saturday are included in the price for this event.

Transition Houston is partnering with TX/RX Labs, the City of Houston Green Building Resource Center, Houston Complete Communities, Citizens’ Environmental Coalition, Texas Campaign for the Environment, and the Houston Peace and Justice Center in this effort!
