Join Transition Houston for our last spring permablitz!
Come together with like minded people to learn how to live more sustainably and help build community! Our projects for the recipient of this permablitz include:
* installing a basic water reclamation system
* building a compost bin
* adding a garden bed
* and more!
Join the diverse Houston Immigrant, Workers' Rights and Social Justice community as we take to the streets on Houston's southwest side and make our voices heard! We will meet up at the corner of Renwick and Bellaire at 12 pm, and march to Burnett Bayland Park (6000 Chimney Rock Rd) at 1pm where we will hold a community rally.
KPFT will be hosting Amy Goodman and Denis Moynihan, authors of a new book, “Democracy Now!: 20 years of Covering the Movements Changing America”, in a book signing event, at 1 pm on May 1.
There will also be a meet & greet before the main event, lasting from 12 noon to 12:50 pm. An additional donation is requested, and spaces are very limited, so if you’re interested please get your tickets now.
The Mennonite Church, 1231 Wirt Rd., will be the venue of the Peace Club gathering on May 1 from 4:30-6:30. Youth will be preparing soup for Food Not Bombs, painting and weaving. Maxine Kaufman-Lacusta, a Quaker Jewish activist and writer from Burnaby, B.C., Canada will be in Houston to speak and do a presentation on nonviolence in Palestine. She will share information about nonviolent activism by Palestinians and Israelis, separately and together, in challenging the Israeli occupation of Palestinian land–as this is a much under-publicized aspect of the Palestinian struggle--as well as ways in which "Internationals" can support these efforts.
Under the direction of Adrian O. Rodriguez, the Emerson Choir, the Emerson Intergenerational Orchestra, and the Austin High School Chamber singers will engage with the Fauré Requiem as an opportunity to connect with our humanity.
