The 12th annual Houston Via Colori® Street Painting Festival is one of the city’s signature art and music festivals. More than 200 local and international artists converge on the streets of downtown Houston to create live street paintings right before your eyes. Attendees can enjoy live music performed by local bands and entertainers on three stages, family-friendly activities, and delicious local food and beverages. A private VIP Lounge features exclusive themed mini-events throughout the weekend.

2017 Rothko Chapel Óscar Romero Award Ceremony
Rothko Chapel's bi-annual Óscar Romero Award--named after Archbishop Óscar Romero of San Salvador who was assassinated on March 24, 1980, because of his vocal opposition to the violent oppression of his fellow citizens--has been given every two years since 1987 in recognition of courageous, grassroots human rights advocacy. Building upon the topic of ending mass incarceration addressed at our 2017 Spring Symposium, the Chapel will honor two recipients, one internationally and the other locally selected, for this year's recognition.

“From Swastika to Jim Crow”
The Center for the Healing of Racism will present a screening of the film “From Swastika to Jim Crow” on Thursday, November 16 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm, at 3412 Crawford St., Houston, 77004. The one-hour documentary tells the little known story of German Jewish professors who, expelled from their homeland by the Nazis, found new lives and careers at all-Black colleges and universities in the South. The film uncovers a remarkable moment in U.S. history while offering a fresh perspective on the complex history of race relations in the United States. The screening will be followed by a discussion.
