HPJC Statement of Support for The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and in opposition to Governor Abbott’s Proclamation on November 18, 2025
On November 18, 2025, Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued a proclamation designating the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) as foreign terrorist organization and transnational criminal organization.
CAIR’s mission is to “enhance understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice and empower American Muslims.” Throughout CAIR’s history, they have worked diligently through the US legal system against violence, intimidation and harassment of American citizens. CAIR has made explicit statements against terrorism of every kind and continuously calls for those who violate US law to be held accountable.
The Houston Peace and Justice Center stands with CAIR and calls upon Governor Abbott to rescind this proclamation.
