It is with great excitement that we announce our first major fundraising event. (Drum Roll Please!!!! lol!) On Saturday, October 8th at 3:30 pm we will have a great NuWaters Fundraiser and Dinner Cruise. We meet at Moody Gardens, tour the rain forest, watch a terrific movie Secret Ocean, and board a historic boat and cruise Galveston Bay with a terrific dinner (vegetarian upon request). Tickets are $75.00 for members (in good standing) and for non-members $100.00. Payment plan is available, stop by the market for more information. Join us (and other Buddhist and Christian denominations) in a gentle walk down Heights Esplanade. Every fall in multiple cities, Buddhist Global Relief organizes walk events to help raise funds for programs that provide direct aid, develop sustainable food production, promote education for girls and women, and give women opportunities for right livelihood. Registration begins 8am, the walk itself at 9am.
HPJC's annual awards dinner brings together peace and justice activists from the southeast Texas area for our 2016 celebration of peacemakers.
Our national peacemaker and keynote speaker will be Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Sonia Nazario, author of the bestseller "Enrique's Journey", a true story about a young Honduran boy's search for his mother who left home to find work in the US to pay for food for her starving family.
Our local peacemaker awardees will be Bren Hardt, Ashton Woods, and Jackie Young. Each of them will get to tell us about the important work they do. A special presentation will also be given to Casa Juan Diego.

Parts of the program, including Sonia Nazario's talk, may be broadcast later on KPFT's The Progressive Forum (Thursdays, 7-9 pm).

chris will join with some local members of the Boulder Canyon Band for this Millbend Coffeehouse Special Event KPFT fundraiser. If you truly love the music of John Denver, or if you are a Chris Colllins fan, this concert will be a wonderful opportunity to enjoy a great Sunday afternoon concert, and also to help support the positive impact of KPFT public radio on our local community. This concert will be be hosted by Emerson Unitarian Universalist Church, 1900 Bering Drive, Houston, TX 77057. Two Rivers is an indigenous led prayerful resistance camp fighting the TPPL (Trans-Pecos Pipeline) in the big bend region of west Texas. Join us for a skill share including Wild Edibles, Fermentation, Rain Gardens, and more! The evening will conclude with a potluck and campfire.

He makes fun of right wing politicians, hypocrites, war profiteers, large multinational corporations, religious bigots, and hate-mongers, while entertaining you with stories and music.
A Barter Fair provides an opportunity to trade objects and services without using common currency. The Quaker testimonies of Simplicity, Community and Stewardship encourage Friends to find creative ways to care for the earth and each other, and we want to extend this opportunity to others in the community. Creating a space to practice thinking together in a new way about how we place value on objects and services within our community seems like a worthwhile way to observe the 48th anniversary of Earth Day.
To get involved, just come! Bring a table, shelf, rug or blanket to display your goods or a sign that describes your service(s). CHILDREN ARE WELCOME! Children are often the best models of how this can work. They have the ability to add value to an item by describing potential uses, and the creativity to negotiate three-way trades.
The Ethnographic Film Society is proud to present a public screening of "On Coal River", a documentary about environmental justice in coal country Appalachia. The screening is free and open to the public. A 5$ donations at the door to support Coal River Mountain Watch, one of the activist organization prominently featured in the film, are greatly appreciated.

The Association for Conflict Resolution Houston (ACRH) Chapter, a 501c3 since 2001, is holding its inaugural benefit to raise funds for the professional commitment of local mediators to initiate Peer Mediation programs within schools in the Harris County and contiguous counties.

The concert benefits the new Interfaith Environmental Network of Houston (IENoH), the Houston chapter of Texas Interfaith Power & Light, a division of the Texas Interfaith Center for Public Policy. A nine-person Veterans For Peace delegation visited Palestine/Israel earlier this year. While there, they met with Palestinian popular resistance leaders as well as members of the Knesset. They participated in nonviolent direct action and witnessed the resiliency, solidarity, creativity and courage of the Palestinian resistance to the Israeli occupation and the settlements that steal their land, water, and other resources.
