PM N. Modi protest/rally on 9-22-19 at 9 AM at NRG Stadium

On September 22, 2019, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in Houston, Texas, for a summit with the Indian American community. This event is being held at the NRG Stadium from 10 AM to 1 PM. A group of concerned citizens will be holding a peaceful protest outside the NRG stadium in opposition to the human rights and civil rights violations of PM Modi and his government. The protest/rally will be on the west sidewalk of Kirby, from the 610 South Frontage Road to La Concha Rd, starting at 9 AM. Stay tuned for details (Bus transportation, speakers, etc). We are working on developing a website and online event signup.

The workshop provides a safe, respectful and loving atmosphere for a diverse group of people to learn new information, share experiences, dispel fears and guilt, and get to know each another.

The Ecological Crisis & The Response of Faith

The Interfaith Environmental Network of Houston invites people of all faiths to learn about our present ecological crisis and consider how our faiths can enable us to respond. What is our present ecological crisis? What specific issues are central? Using the United Nations’ Global Environmental Outlook, issued earlier this year, the speaker will address these questions. All attendees, of all faiths, will then engage in facilitated discussions of how our faiths both inform and enable our response to this crisis, through both personal and collective action and advocacy.

The Longoria Affair: Film Screening & Dialogue

Felix Longoria, a decorated Mexican American soldier, was killed in battle during World War II.  But when his body came home to Three Rivers, Texas in 1945, the only funeral home in town refused to handle his burial.  “The whites wouldn’t like it,” they told his widow.  Nationwide outrage sparked the beginning of Latinos as a political force in the U.S. 

In recognition of National Hispanic Heritage Month, the Center for the Healing of Racism will be screening the “The Longoria Affair.”
