Come learn the ancient art of fermentation! It’s a way to preserve food, harvest probiotics, spread food cultures, and get creative with your food. In this introductory class, we will cover the basics of the fermentation process, taste homemade ferments, and you will make and take home a mason jar of your first vegetable ferment! Your gut is already thanking you. The class is based on the teachings of Sandor Katz’ book Wild Fermentation, an essential reference for budding home fermenters. This class will use locally grown produce whenever possible, meaning that the vegetables we ferment in class will change by the season! We have fermented cabbage, beets, carrots, daikon radish, green beans, turnips, mustard greens, and more. These nutritious goods have been flavored with dill, fennel, oranges, garlic, and ginger. Come see what’s in season and make your own combination!

The pledge of allegiance states that we as a country are "one nation, indivisible" yet our elected president Donald Trump has continuously introduced policies that are dividing us as a nation. We must let him know that we as the MAJORITY do not agree with his hateful rhetoric. His idea of America is not our idea of America.
It is time for the city government of Houston to see how diverse we are. The grand claim was made that we are a "welcoming city," but the treatment of the local homeless community, gentrification, lack clarity on where our elected leaders stand on Trump's policies and of course the issue of anti Blackness need to be addressed.
We are not one big happy family until justice is extended to all!

Two Rivers is an indigenous led prayerful resistance camp fighting the TPPL (Trans-Pecos Pipeline) in the big bend region of west Texas. Join us for a skill share including Wild Edibles, Fermentation, Rain Gardens, and more! The evening will conclude with a potluck and campfire.
Residents from across the southern suburbs of Houston will be publicly showing our support for our Muslim neighbors and for refugees and immigrants from predominately Muslim countries. Recent efforts to restrict immigration, turn away refugees, and incidents of anti-Muslim violence and harassment make this an important time for us all to come together and let our voices of respect and compassion be heard.
2017 Annual Conference of the Texas Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty will take place on February 18 at St. David Episcopal Church in Austin, Texas. Register by February 8 for discounted rate. Citizens to Rally and March Against Tyranny in Downtown Houston
Houston, TX – (February 13, 2017) – Most years, this weekend would be dedicated to the power of the President. This year on Sunday, February 19, “We the People Connect the Dots” march against tyranny and ongoing attacks on social justice and civil rights.
Instead of honoring our current President on this holiday, we honor the American people and the values that hundreds of thousands of us are fighting for. We are democracy. We are patriots. We are America.” states the membership of Indivisible Houston.
The March will begin at 3:00 PM with speakers from diverse advocacy groups united by those interconnected issues and articulating true American values.
Where are we with Climate Change—is Houston threatened? It’s been a decade since An Inconvenient Truth. What is the current truth? Is anything less convenient here, other than massive flooding? John Nielsen-Gammon, the State Climatologist of Texas, will update us for the first hour on the climate data in the past ten years and how that is impacting Houston. Then three speakers will present current slides from the Climate Reality Project, an organization dedicated to catalyzing a global solution to the climate crisis, partnering with US Green Building Council.
The Center for the Healing of Racism presents Dialogue: Racism, a two-day intensive workshop that educates participants about racism and facilitates the process by which individuals can begin to counter the affects of racism on their lives and become empowered to interrupt the cycle of racist attitudes. The workshop provides a safe, respectful, and loving atmosphere for individuals to learn new information, share experiences, dispel fears and guilt, and get to know each other.
On the Fringe Book Club was created as a response to the current political climate.
On the Fringe is a monthly gathering to discuss books and Related content pertaining to social justice, humanitarian crises, and other issues that remain “on the fringe” of the concerns of mainstream society.
