They will share photos and stories from their experiences after staying with families, meeting with Israeli and Palestinian peace activists and non-governmental organizations and experiencing life on both sides of the separation barrier.

In 2017, CEC will be hosting the Greater Houston Environmental Summit on Friday, August 4, 2017, from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm at the Community Resource Center at the United Way of Greater Houston. In addition to excellent keynote presentations and panels, we will again offer small-format table talks. We will feature a panel in conjunction with EarthShare of Texas, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. We are partnering with a variety of environmental education collaboratives to offer an Environmental Education Expo for teachers and informal educators. On the Fringe was created as a response to the current political climate.

On the Fringe is a social gathering that happens every other month focused on discussing books and related content pertaining to social justice, humanitarian crises, and other issues that remain “on the fringe” of the concerns of mainstream society.

Our fourth meeting will focus on the topic of Immigration.

We will be discussing The Good Immigrant edited by Nikesh Shukla.

On the Beach is a 1959 American post-apocalyptic science fiction drama film from United Artists, produced and directed by Stanley Kramer, that stars Gregory Peck, Ava Gardner, Fred Astaire and Anthony Perkins. This black-and-white film is based on Nevil Shute's 1957 novel of the same name depicting the aftermath of a nuclear war. Unlike the novel, no blame is placed on whoever started the war; it is hinted in the film that the threat of annihilation may have arisen from an accident or misjudgment.

Working as a white ally against racism is hard but not impossible.  One thing that doesn’t help the cause is saying “I don’t see color.”  The failure to see color only benefits white America.  A world without color is a world without racial debt.  Rather, the most radical action a white person can take is to acknowledge privilege, to admit that in the institutional and deep psychological structures of the United States, the underlying assumption is that white lives are worth more than black lives.
