Get in the Way is the first biographical film about John Lewis, a respected legislator and elder statesman who co-led the the historic 1965 Selma March known as Bloody Sunday. Today he continues to practice nonviolence in his determined fight for justice. The film is a riveting portrayal of John Lewis’ personal journey of courage, searing disappointments and hard-won triumphs, as over the decades he inspires others to stand up and resist.

Not My President! Resist Trump! Houston March and Rally on January 20

The January 20 Coalition is organizing a march and rally to protest the inauguration of Trump on Friday January 20, 1-4 pm. We will assemble on the sidewalk at 900 Smith St., next to Hermann Square, at 1 pm. Beginning at 1:30 pm, we will march on the sidewalks down Smith St. to the Leland Federal Building at 1919 Smith St. Our rally there will include speakers, chants, spoken word artists, and the dramatic smashing of a new Trump piñata.

The group will be making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for food not bombs and learning to knit and crochet hats for needy folks. Participating in the MLK Parade will be discussed, and possible activities for the next 6 months will be planned. Ages 5 and older are invited, so bring friends. Supporting each other will help us become more compassionate peacemakers. 2017 will be a challenge, so let’s work with our youth to create the Beloved Community.

Their National Partners—Patagonia, CLIF Bar, Earthjustice,Sierra Nevada Brewing, Klean Kanteen, Orion Magazine, Barefoot Wine, and KEEN—help make the festival available to environmentally conscious groups across the country. Hosting The Wild & Scenic Film Festival on Tour helps the CEC illustrate the Earth’s beauty, the challenges facing our planet, and the work communities are doing to protect our environment. The festival is a natural extension of CEC’s work to inspire people to act.

These are two of the worst men on the continent, and they have shown they do not care for Mexican people on either side of the border. The Pena Nieto regime is extremely corrupt, engages in violent repression, and has opened up Mexico's oil resources to exploitation by U.S. capitalists. The new Trump administration is also extremely corrupt, is planning mass deportations of undocumented immigrants, and has taken the first steps toward violent repression on the border and in U.S. cities.
