In light of the UNRWA funding crisis and the deteriorating humanitarian conditions, we're fundraising to provide emergency assistance, including employing 25 UNRWA counselors -- refugees themselves -- to provide psychosocial support to Palestine refugee children and families in the Gaza Strip who suffer from trauma due to repeated Israeli military assaults and the continued blockade.

In commemoration of World AIDS Day, the Rothko Chapel will host a morning observance to show support and solidarity with the millions of people living with and impacted by HIV/AIDS. This program is offered in partnership with The oH Project: Oral Histories of HIV/AIDS in Houston, Harris County, and Southeast Texas.
The morning program will include live music, personal testimonials, and guided reflection. Gregory Hamilton, a community educator and advocate working at ASP Cares Pharmacy will share information on the state of the battle against HIV in Houston and Texas. Isis Torrente, member of the Latino HIV Task Force, Greater Houston chapter of the Positive Women's Network, and Ryan White Planning Council will speak on her experience within the HIV community in Houston. Moments of reflection will be led by Reverend Diane McGehee, Senior Pastor of Bering Memorial UMC, and music will be performed throughout by John Edward Ross on acoustic guitar.

The CLLP and the National Black United Front of Houston strongly believe the remains should be reburied in the sacred ground where they were found. Fort Bend ISD is doing everything it can to block that from happening.
We need to show FBISD, Houston and the world this isn't just a "black" issue. They can't just plan a quick "Black History Month" presentation and be done with it. The City of Houston has established a "nonprofit" astroturfed special interest group with the doublespeak title "Coalition for Educational Excellence and Equity in Houston", designed to mask the hostile corporate takeover over HISD schools. The registered agent is Juliet Stipeche, the Mayor's point person on education. The board comprises three wealthy right wing benefactors: Trini Mendenhall, Corbin Robertson Jr, and Stephanie Paige.
These people have NO BUSINESS being anywhere NEAR anything that is supposed to be for the public good, much less in control of the future of our children.
In conjunction with the American Friends Service Committee, we have deep concern surrounding the treatment of families that are seeking asylum in the United States. We are seeking others with similar concerns to participate in the Love Knows No Borders week of action. We are focused on bringing attention to this pressing issue through love and nonviolence. Together, we are calling on the U.S. to end the detention and deportation of immigrants, respect the human right to migrate, and end the militarization of the border.

Join us for a candlelight vigil to honor the memory of the 95 enslaved prisoners whose bodies were discovered in Sugar Land this spring. We stand in solidarity with all the African-American men and women who were trapped in the horrific system of convict leasing here in Sugar Land and across the Southern United States. We will gather at 5 and light our candles at 5:30.
Bring family and friends. We hope to light at least 95 candles to represent each of the 95 individuals and raise awareness of this tragic chapter of our shared history.
