The annual Good Friday "Walk for Justice", sponsored by Pax Christi, will take place on Friday, April 14. Gather at 12 noon at the reflecting pool in front of City Hall in downtown Houston. Many different peace and social justice issues are addressed in the Walk for Justice. All are welcome.
David Loy, professor, Buddhist activist and author, leads a workshop and study group on Buddhism and the Ecological Crisis. Houston Zen Center is honored to host this important thinker and activist.
A Barter Fair provides an opportunity to trade objects and services without using common currency. The Quaker testimonies of Simplicity, Community and Stewardship encourage Friends to find creative ways to care for the earth and each other, and we want to extend this opportunity to others in the community. Creating a space to practice thinking together in a new way about how we place value on objects and services within our community seems like a worthwhile way to observe the 48th anniversary of Earth Day.
To get involved, just come! Bring a table, shelf, rug or blanket to display your goods or a sign that describes your service(s). CHILDREN ARE WELCOME! Children are often the best models of how this can work. They have the ability to add value to an item by describing potential uses, and the creativity to negotiate three-way trades.

Continuing its tradition of celebrating communities from border regions in North America and South Asia, Voices Breaking Boundaries (VBB) will launch the third and final installment of its internationally renowned anthology series. Borderlines Volume Three features original photos, essays, poetry and journalistic narratives that find commonalities, and explore issues erupting across areas splintered by borders.
The Ethnographic Film Society is proud to present a public screening of "On Coal River", a documentary about environmental justice in coal country Appalachia. The screening is free and open to the public. A 5$ donations at the door to support Coal River Mountain Watch, one of the activist organization prominently featured in the film, are greatly appreciated.
People of all faiths are invited to come together on Sunday, May 7 at 5 p.m. for the kick-off of the new Interfaith Environmental Network of Houston (a Houston chapter of TX Interfaith Power and Light).

In commemoration of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, the Center for the Healing of Racism will screen the documentary “Vincent Who?” on Thursday, May 18, 2017 from 7 to 9 PM. The typical American diet is contributing to obesity, diabetes, heart disease and other health problems, which cost Americans for than $150 billion per year. Many of our neighbors are marooned in vast urban food deserts without access to fresh affordable food. Equitable access to healthy options will support parents in save their own health, set their children on a path to a healthy future and put our food system on a more humane, sustainable path.
